| Puerto del Carmen Review: | | Written by Stuart Foster on 08 Dec 2002 about a trip in Nov 2002.
| This is a purpose built tourist resort with plenty of bars and restraunts to keep everybody happy.
The most easterly of the Canaries, Lanzarote is a dry and fairly flat island whose bizarre landscape has been shaped by volcanic activity, barren lava fields, craters and Fire Fountain itself (in the Timanfaya National Park) where heat still radiates from just beneath the surface. Elsewhere on the island, which is about 40 miles long and about 14 miles wide, there are regions of green hills and sandy beaches, the most popular of which is on the east coast.
Arrecife, also in the east, is the capital and an important fishing port. The airport is located 4 miles west of the town. |
