Maybe

Rooms were spacious enough and each one has a brilliant view of the bay.

the staff in the hotel and bars were superb, we only had a problem with a very arrogant lifeguard who was upset that the kids were splashing his girlfriend who was laid out on a sunbed beside him!when we tried to talk to him we were told to learn spanish!!!, needless to say his girlfriend didn't return to her sunbed for the rest of our holiday, but we were treated to evil looks from the lifeguard for the rest of the holiday, what are kids supposed to do in a swimming pool?

We had booked an apartment as we were self catering but our room had no fridge or cooking facilities, so we mentioned it to reception and we were given a fridge and upgraded to half board, no problem. The food was excellent with a varied choice of meals, for breakfast they even had a seperate section with british bacon. The rooms were cleaned every day, even if you left "do not disturb" signs on, they would come back in the afternoon. The entertainment was average hotel fare.

Our main and only real gripe was the hotel does not have a shop so if you are self catering you have a 10 minute walk to the nearest supermarket which is at the bottom of the hill and a long slog back again with bags. The beach was a good 25 minute walk from the hotel.

All in all a value for money holiday, we just didn't particularly like Santa Ponsa, but that is a personal choice. My wife just reminded me, the windows in the apartment were absolutely filthy, but to be fair, when asked, they did attempt to clean them.

pool and view over Santa Ponsa bay

On arrival at 10 pm, reception dealt promptly and courteously with us. Our rooms were more than adequate. The view from the balcony was breathtaking!

The food was delicious - a choice of roast dinner every night - or every type of salad, cold meats, pasta dishes - puddings a plenty, including fresh strawberries and copious amounts of ice cream, what more can anyone ask. The waiters did seem somewhat aloof, but got the job done. We never waited long for a table.

The bar staff, Juan , Elena and the rest were always smiling and very friendly. What can we say about Lee? What a grafter the lad is! Short of jumping through hoops of fire, he did everything to help make the holidaymaker happy.

From other reviews we were a little apprehensive about the pool area - reports of slippery surfaces and broken limbs! This was not the case whilst we were there.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Only giving room 9/10 because there were no brewing facilities in room, but managed to buy a kettle etc. problem solved.

Sun, sea, Sangria/Benjamin Cava! More please!

The Punta Del Mar is an above average hotel in an above average resort. The rooms are what you expect. Ours on the first floor had marvelous views over the picturesque bay. The food is very nice. The entertainment is mainly bingo and quizzes. A nearby hotel a short walk outside and to the right has a much nicer entertainment room and further along at the ‘square’ there are bars with entertainment. Mark Ritchie, resident at the Piano Bar is very popular. Alcohol is not cheap, expect to pay up to 3E for a pint of Spanish rotgut and food is very reasonably priced, 3 courses from 6E. The local bus service goes to Palma from ‘the square’ at little cost but takes 90 minutes each way because of the congestion. It is possible to get local bus connections to Port Soller, Deja etc from Palma which has 2 bus stations close to each other. An organised coach trip to a local market. Formentor and Polenca is very enjoyable and can be booked at the hotel reception.

The location and views from this hotel are amazing, probably the best in Santa Ponsa.
The food was really good, we did,nt get fed up of it, even after two weeks.
The rooms overlooking the bay are nicely refurbished although quite small. The only thing that would stop us returning is the air conditioning which is only switched on for limited times. Our room was so hot in the night that we had to sleep with the balcony doors open, which did,nt leave us feeling very secure and we ended up with lots of insect bites.

The front of the hotel

Reception area and views

Having been back from our holiday less than 24 hours i just had to put "pen to paper" so to speak!!
What can I say? this was without doubt the best holiday i have ever been on. The Hotel Punta Del Mar was situated in paradise, with the most spectacular views. Built into the cliff and situated on a headland between 2 bays it was breath taking. The most was made of the views by having walls almost entirely made of glass in reception, the reading/t.v. room, and bar/entertainment area.
The rooms were clean and well presented...although not all have a balcony (us unfortunately). But from what I could make out all have a sea view.
The food was on the whole very good, plenty of it, and also plenty to choose from. Some of the head waiters were however a little on the surley side.
Going out of season as we did, i was expecting very little in the way of entertainment. I am glad to say i was totally wrong. The entertainment came in the form of an all rounder called Lee who worked tirelessly every night making sure we all had a good time, wether playing bingo, quizzing, kareoke or silly games......well done fella it was much appreciated!!
The resort itself was very quiet as alot of places were closed or just getting ready for the start of the coming season. There is definately not a shortage of places to eat and drink in the season. We managed to find a few places open and enjoyed every one of them.
We loved it, hope you will too.

view of Punta Del Mar from the pool

view from reception

We have stayed at the Punta Del Mar for 2 years running. Last week June / first July. It is about a 10 min walk from the centre of town & is probably in one of the best locations for quitness. It has spectacular views from all rooms to the bay and out to sea. The hotel is always clean and the pool is well designed & manned with a life gaurd at all times. The rooms are attended to by maids every day! Although the hotel is air conditioned - this is not normally turned on until July. This year there were problems with a bad smell of diesel fumes from it! This affected many levels of the hotel. The food is very basic and seems to be repeated every 2nd night. So we eat out most nights, even though we were half board. The staff are compatent, if a little humpy at times. My biggest gripe is that this hotel has been targeted for 2 years by thiefs who have had access to the rooms by key. The rooms keys seem to fit every other door! The management are aware of this yet their has been no change to the entry system security that I have seen - although security gaurds were posted at regular times after the last spat of break ins. The resturant was not air comnned until several complaints this year. Santa Ponsa itself is a great place - it has everything you could want in a resort. The 'square' has free open air entertainment everynight. The 'Irish' half has lively bars and clubs which are now open many all night long. But the resort has a quite side (iether side of the bay) with lovely resturants and typical spanish bars can be found around the marina and near the square area. The beech is first class and always clean. A very cosmopolitan resort, that can be many things to many return visitors.
