Radisson SAS Plaza Oslo: Simply OK / Not bad / Quite Good by World Traveller |
| Posted 13 September 2005 about a visit in August 2005 | Overall rating: 7.0 |
I apologise for the unconvincing title.
From my pre-visit investigations, I got the feeling that Oslo is a little behind in terms of hotel comfort/modernisation, however this could simply have been how they present themselves over the internet.
The Plaza brought out mixed feelings. It's supposedly the largest hotel in Scandinavia (which I'm sure would put most of us off). The newly refurbished rooms are not huge but well designed for a business focussed hotel. It's all glass design and 34 stories surely allow most guests a formidable view of a beautiful city.
The staff were polite. The breakfast was good. The rooms had FREE wireless and cable internet (which was useful as my wireless was playing up). The internet cabling had only been up a week so they took half an hour to re-patch the cables to the right room. They also tried to charge me, by accident, for the international helpdesk call. The bedding was clean (perhaps nearly new) and the bed was very comfortable.
On the downside, the sauna was only 65 degrees C, the smallish pool was cold and all I saw of the gym was a running machine and ski thing (summary - inadequate for a business hotel)
Don't let all this put you off. I stay in many hotels on business and I felt surprising comfortable in this one. I think a large part of this is because of the refit. There's nothing better than knowing that you are not (yet) the latest in a long history of previous occupants and their bodies etc.
Make sure you get a decent rate through someone like this site and I don't think you'll regret staying there. I would happily stay again.
P.S. Oslo is a quaint, stylish town, but VERY expensive.
