We stayed here on our honeymoon and were lucky enough to be upgraded to a grand suite in the main building. After the long flight, the complimentary bottle of champagne and singapore slings were very welcome.
Quite simply the best hotel I've ever stayed in. Perhaps not as 'posh' as some of the newer hotels, but the history and tradition (and of course singapore slings) make up for that.
The accomodation was superb, we had a large bathroom with shower, bath, 2 sinks and seperate toilet. A large bedroom with traditional bed, writing desk tv etc. Wardrobes with silk dressing gowns & slippers. A large lounge again with tv, a small kitchen with wine and champagne in the fridge, and another seperate toilet with sink. The best bit was the (again) huge balcony. I've seen smaller flats in the UK.
The service was great, everyone wears a uniform and is very friendly. We only ate there one evening, but recommend the tiffin curry which is very good and excellent value.
My favourite bit was sipping vanilla martinis in the martini bar in the evening.
Good shops (if rather pricey) and excellent location. We didn't want to leave, but borneo was beckoning ......
