Regent Palace: Great Value in the heart of London by Hayley Alder |
| Posted 06 January 2006 about a visit in July 2005 | Overall rating: 8.0 |
I have stayed at this hotel 4 times now and although it is very basic I would say it is great value for money. All the rooms have shared toilets and showers but they are not far away from your room and I have always found them to be clean. The rooms have tv, tea and coffee making and wash basin which is exactly what you need when you've been on a trip around London for the day! Callaghans bar is on the ground floor of the hotel which is really nice and Harry ramsdens fish and chip restaurant next door to it is also handy. This hotel could not be closer to all of the major attractions and Piccadilly Circus tube station is just outside the main entrance to the hotel.

Regent Palace: Great value by Bahai1 Baker |

I stayed at the Regent Palace in June 2005 for two nights, the cost was £38 per room per night with shared shower room. The room has a television, telephone, tea and coffee (kettle, tea bags etc), and hand basin. The rooms are very basic, but clean, the Irish pub bar is great, good bar food, and the hotel location is perfect. Tube station 30 seconds from the front door, you really are in the centre of things.
Leave the main entrance, turn right and then right again and you'll find a little supermarket for your bottles of wine, water, cans of beer etc (and cheap!!!)
At £38 a room, smack in the middle of the West End, you really cannot go wrong.

Regent Palace: Basic, but good value for money by Catherine Martins |

Fab location for enjoying London and don't want to pay a fortune for your hotel as you probably won't be spending too much time there anyway...
You can easliy walk anywhere in central London as Regent Palace is right on Piccadilly Circus. You can walk down past Trafalgar Square and progress to Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, London Eye etc if you want to go sightseeing. If you want to go shopping, simply walk up Regent Street and you'll soon be on Oxford Street. Alternatively, the Trocadero shopping centre is just next to the hotel. Or, go to Covent Garden, there are lots of smaller shops. If you're seeing a musical (you should), compare the different sellers on Leicester square (which is about 5 min walk), you might be able to find cheaper tickets (just above £20). The theatres are also at walking distance.
If you prefer to take the tube or bus, the stop/station is just by the hotel.
If you book this hotel on Internet you should be able to find rates from £40-45 for basic and from £45-50 for a regent room which have en suite facilites but still are quite basic (quite large though).
The rooms are rather dull, but clean enough. It's hardly the Hilton, but it's a decent place to stay if you're not expecting too much.
The noise might bother some people. The hotel is very central and so; there is noise from streets and people. When we stayed there, there were also a couple of people yelling in the corridor at 3 am, but else it wasn't so bad.
I would definetly reccomend this hotel if you're coming to explore London, but would rather spend your money on shopping and such, than a hotel that you probably won't spend much time in anyway.
