| Reims Review: Reims, Epernay - glorious champagne | | Written by Monk-San on 05 Apr 2005 about a trip in Aug 2004.
| Reims (pronounced Rens) is an attractive town which you can stroll round in a day. The champagne village of Epernay is nearby, but you'd be hard pushed to beat the champagne of Taittinger, and you can tour the caves and do some tasting pretty much every day of the week. If you go to Reims and don't visit Taittinger, then you've wasted your trip!
Mind you its not all about the sparkling stuff (really). The cathedral is beautiful - especially the wonderful stained glass windows and it is a genuinely pleasant place to stroll around.
We also enjoyed the Basilisque St Remi which is about 2 minutes walk from the Taittinger Caves and has a splendid statue of King Clovis. |
