Booked a last minute trip for myself and my teenage daughter. Be aware that some rooms are internal with no balcony. Fortunately I discovered this before my holiday and was able to upgrade to a sea-view room with balcony. That was money well spent as the view is fab. The location couldn't be better - right slap bang in the centre of the resort. The nearest beach is within a few yards as are the shops, bars, restaurants and even the bus station. The hotel itself is quite old and traditional but the room we had was large and the beds were firm and comfortable. There is no air-con (except in the internal rooms) but fans can be hired at 15 euro a week + 10 euro deposit. Because of the location the hotel is quite noisy but this didn't spoil our holiday and it's not as if the noise goes on much past midnight. There is a lift to all four floors. The dining room is pleasant and breakfasts can be taken outside in the restaurant which is one of the most popular in the resort. Breakfasts are the usual continental. Rolls, ham, cheese, fruit and cereals. Staff are friendly though service was a little slow during the evenings as the same staff serve both guests and non-residents in the restaurant.
As for the resort - very pretty. Mainly geared to families. We found it quite expensive to eat out but after some searching managed to find a good chinese restaurant directly behind the hotel that does a 3-course set menu for 9 euro. There was a similar one along the seafront though not so good. The hotel also did a set menu for 12 euro but there wasn't that much choice. Burger King is to the right of the hotel along the seafront.
The easiest and cheapest way to get around is the bus. Timetables are available at the hotel. The bus to Formentor is a must for 1.10 euro. The drive is hair raising and the scenery amazing. Spend a couple of hours sunbathing (there's not much else to do) and catch the boat back (about 5 euros each).
Alcudia is also 1.10 euro - very busy on market day but for the beach, stay on the bus to the port, it costs the same.
We also went to Palma on the bus -about 5 euro - over an hours journey so excellent value. Be warned in the summer months the bus station as quite a walk with little shade. The buses all over Majorca stop around 1pm and don't start again until about 3pm so bear this in mind when planning your day.
During the evening most people tend to go for a stroll along the Pine Walk which runs along the whole of the resort - very pretty. There isn't much in the way of disco's or entertainment.
We enjoyed our stay at the Eolo - don't expect 5* but if you're after a cheap centrally located hotel (no pool) then I've no problems in recommending it.
1 word of warning - check the price of loungers on the beach before you start to sunbathe. We were charged 14.5 euros for the day!
