Roquetas de Mar Travel Guide: Roquetes De Mar review

Written by Liz Wylie on 07 Jul 2006 about a trip in Jun 2006.
Trip was for a couple on holiday. Liz Wylie would probably visit again.

Roquetas de Mar restaurants

We found that there were a lot of good places to eat, both Spanish (tapas and more substantial fare) as well as more "British" food. Prices not too bad either, and definately cheaper than Britain.

Although we don't favour the more British type of bar, we ate a few times in Christine and Dicks Bar and found the food to be very good quality. Christine does the cooking and if you are looking for home made pies, caseroles etc., this is worth a visit. I especially loved her macaroni cheese and bolognese! Sounds a bit funny? Try it and see. it was delicious! She was even happy to give me the recipe. Visit yourself and find out the secret.

Roquetas de Mar day trips

We visited Almeria town on a Saturday, and it was just about shut!! The shops close at 4pm so go on another day.

Roquetas de Mar History and Culture

We visited Roquetas in June/July 2006. The area is starting to get commercialised, but it is not too busy. There are a lot of Spanish families holidaying in the resort.

This is one of the warmest, driest parts of mainland Spain. The one down side was the amount of flies in the area. Aparently from June to October they invade the coast so be warned. Buy a fly swat! On the plus side, I usually get eaten alive no matter where I go on holiday but came hole without one bite. The flies are a nuisance but at least they don't bite.

All in all, a nice resort and worth a visit.
