Set right on the beach, access gained through a gate with your keycard, like a credit card, also operates your door, lights etc.
Arrived 14/7/05.Playa Luna hotel is about an hours drive from the Airport. It has a very nice front entrance with an aviary attached, with love birds budgies etc.The reception area is big airy and friendly with a lovely fountain feature. The staff at reception are very friendly but have trouble understanding english, which we found to be the case with other staff throughout the hotel,we were told by our rep that it is because the hotel is new to the english brochures and they will be getting more english speaking staff. The hotel guests are 90% Spanish the rest English(27 guests)and German. It is a very Spanish family hotel, which we found very noisey round the pool area and cramped with no chance of getting a sunbed if your a sunbather(towels on all the beds!)but that didn't really bother us.It was very quiet at night, with no problem sleeping. The hotel has a little gift shop in the foyer where you can get english papers, magazines etc, there is also a haidressers, and an internet cafe(which pleased the kids!!)& The Bar.The breakfast/dining room, buffet style,is big and airy but very manic at breakfast time, breakfast is from 8am till 10.30,and has a large selection, bacon sausages,eggs,croissants,do-nuts,toast,jams,cheeses,pates,rolls,cereals you also get a large jug of coffee which is brought to you.Evening meal is served between 7pm and 10.30.We found it best to go in at 7 as it gets really packed as the Spanish eat later, there was a very large range of food to choose from, starters melon, cheese and biscuits, soups etc.main courses were pizzas, lasagne, chips, pastas, chicken, steaks, stewed meats, loads of fish varieties, cold meats, salads, rices&lots of spanish type stuff.Desserts were different cakes, jelly, rice pudding, baked apples, lots of fresh fruits. It says you cant take any food out with you but all the spanish guests did,so we did.The entertainment, adult and kids was all geared round Spanish guests!!.We had a 1 bedroom apartment, the kids slept,on a double sofa bed in the lounge area, which they found ok.Although we were half board we still had self catering facilities, which was one of the things I booked this hotel for, they consisted of a fridge, microwave, and two electric hot plates which we found very handy. We had knives, forks spoons etc, very well equiped. The maids came in every day and cleaned thouroughly.
The area the hotel is in is good, plenty of shops, bars restaurants, there is a bar over the road next door to Hansas indian restaurant, called Oasis, with very friendly staff, say hello to Salvador and Adrian.
We hired a car for a week from Almericar(£120.00)We went to Alcazaba castle in Almeria town very good,we also drove to Granada to Alhambra Palace(booked in car hire shop),which wasn't as good as expected. We also had our best day at Mini Hollywood in Tabernas it was easy to drive to(about 40 mins)tickets were bought there 19 euros adults and if you show your hotel keycard free for kids!!It was well worth a visit a brilliant day,but very very hot!
The weather for our 2 weeks was fantastic from high 80's into 100's stifling somedays, good job there was a breeze most days.
We had no problem with mosquitoes, but they do have a big fly problem, which was very annoying.
The beach is fantastic looking but not sandy, its very stoney, which we didnt like if you love sandy beaches its not for you.The sea is very rough, and deep, but still lovely to look off your balcony at.Our room was 477,which was looking over a carpark next Hotel hotel, but also at the beach and sea.
we all had a good time, but wont return to Roquetas De Mar,but not because we didn't like it just,we've been there done that.!!!!
