Royal Albion Hotel: Not bad really by Paul Rogers |
| Posted 23 February 2004 | Overall rating: 9.0 |
Only stayed one night. Drove down on Saturday morning and stayed until Sunday. (February 2004)
Found the arrival quite weird because of the car parking situation in Brighton. If it is difficult to find a space during the Winter, then it must be hell during the Summer!
For parking, you can go outside the hotel (about 15 spaces) for up to 2 hours, but it will cost you £4!!! Best idea is to go along the main front, down Madiera Drive (?) which has long stay parking. You can park for 9 hours (controlled parking times 0900-1800) for £2:50!! Otherwise, if you want secure parking, take a loan out for 15 quid!
Back to the hotel! Entrance was very nice. Staff were very pleasant. Welcomed us, confirmed hotel facilities etc. (You can get short parking tickets from them (the four quid one!).
We were on the third floor (314), corner room, the floor smelt quite smokey (being a smoker tho I didn't mind, but others might). Found the room "ok", not an OH wow room, but not an OH GOD room either, just a room.
Had a jacuzzi, which was nice. View directly onto the roundabout outside and Brighton Pier restaurant.
The bar seemed nice, carpets clean, solid walls (!) and Sky TV in the rooms (the one without the card).
Hated the coffee in the rooms, but the coffee from the room service is quite nice (if a tad expensive).
Breakfast. I got confused, I was sure that breakfast was not included, but found it was, so why not! I WOULD not pay 10 quid for it though if it was extra, go into town if you have a morning available and eat there.
Looks like they have changed the coffee idea now, you help yourself.
Overall, it was a very pleasant experience, and I would stay there again when in Brighton.

central position just across the road from Palace Pier
had room on top floor...ok... but rather cramped
good buffet breakfast, but tea/coffee service to tables rather erratic
got an impression that the hotel had seen better days!
