We just got back from 2 weeks at this hotel an i'd be more inclined to give it a 3 star rating than a 4. The hotel, swimming pool, and rooms were nice an clean upon arrival we had problems with booking in as the receptionist wanted to see all of our paper work that we had from booking with the tour operators an alas no one told us we needed this ( we've never needed it before) another group had the same problem an i think the only reason he bypassed it was because so many of us were booking in on the same morning ( 2 groups of 15 plus other familys). The entertainment programme is only a week long so if your going for 2 weeks be prepared for exactly the same shows on your second week, we thought this poor considering it a "4 star" the entertainment team were great with the kids disco every night but this only lasted approx 45 mins then the kids entertained themselves with the music until the theme night started. The resturant was clean although 2 cockroaches were seen by my family when 1 of these was pointed out to a waitress she just came over and stood on it. The food consisted of cooked breakfast which was very nice, cereal but the milk was warm, a few cheeses, breads, sliced meat, the usual really for all inclusive, it was the dinner and tea menus that gave this hotel the 3 star not the 4 star, everday for 14 days both of these meals always consisted of pork in some form i.e pork chops,or sliced pork, or spare ribs (u get the idea) and chicken, fish (which was nice but millions of bones in it so gave up even trying with that) pasta, an chips (occasionally boiled potatoes as well, but these were sparingly mixed in with some veg ie peas or sprouts) so not much chance of potatoes if like us folk got fed up with chips, an 1 other dish, so that was it for 14 days at 2 meal times - pork chicken pasta chips/potatoes an another dish. You also had the choice of salad cheeses sliced meats and bread. I must say though everything was cooked beautifully but u sort of got very fed up with the menu on the second week. oh an the pudding never changed either. The second reason this hotel does not deserve the 4 star is the bar...man what a nightmare! ok so i'd read on reviews that you could only get 2 drinks at a time which I was ok with, it was the amount of time it took for you 2 get a drink the waiters thought nothing of chattering amongst themselves in between serving, they only opend up one side of the bar throughout the day whereas at night both sides were open, even if the queue got ridiculously long( an it did) they never served from the other side of the bar through the day, there was also a bar in the smoking area of the hotels which opened at about 3 ish in the afternoon on our first 3/4 days after that it was closed? why? I have no idea maybe because it was getting busier and its a way of slowing the drinks therefore hotel makes more money. There was also a tea/coffee drinks machine here in the smoking area as well as in the main bar area but this was out of order for the whole of our stay, which again is not acceptable for a 4 star hotel. A tip here is to buy yourself a mug an use that instead of the teacups because the water didnt seem to stay hot for very long in the teacups were as in a mug it was much better, you can also take that into the restuarant with you in a morning if like me you like a mug of tea in a morning ( saves running to the machine all the time as well) there was only ever 2 toasters working at one time as well although we know they had 4 but onceyou get to know how to work them the toast can be done pretty quick. The snacks were just about the same every day as well which we kind of expected an wouldn't have minded if the meals hadn't been so repetative. Towards the end of our second week we ate out rather than ate at the hotel just for something different a few of us in our group also went out and bought bottles of pop rather than queue in the ridiculous queues at the bars, I mean by the time you had taken the ice cubes out an the drinks were always 2 inch from full there wasn't a lot of drink in the glass/plastic cup. So within minutes You would be at the back of the queue again even though there was always plenty of bar staff on. They are all the reasons this hotel does not deserve a 4 star which could easily be rectified apart from that the people were friendly didn't much care for the shingles beach which was only a 3 minute walk away but plenty of other people did, and like I said the hotel and swimming pools were kept lovely and clean, could get a bit loud late at nite but only to be expected. I say when people are on holiday, although I only ever heard arguments and I mean big long arguments, not the singing an carrying off of a few drunks which can be amusing an entertaining. All in all we got a good cheap deal and if the menu was more varied an all the bars were open at busy times regardless of day or night I would definitely go back to this hotel.

We stayed at Royal Beach hotel last year and liked it so much , we have decided to go back in october 2005,
It is excellent value for money, with clean accomadation, loads of food, etc
fine in my opinion, you only get what you pay for, and you pay a budget price for this place if you want 5 star treatment then your in the wrong place

We stayed at the the Royal Beach in March 2004 and it is a good value hotel but the rating is not and should not be 4 star. the cleaniless of the rooms and hotel overall was good as was the food. However, the reception staff were unhelpful and on occasion, rude. The problem with the hotel being such good value is that it does therefore attract some unsavoury characters. At times, you felt as though you were at Butlins or worse. On the first night we were there, we were awoken 3 times by drunken rowdyness (unlimited drinks are included at the hotel!!)

Lloret itself is lovely and Barcelona was only 7 euros return by train. We nearly paid 80 euros for a coach excursion to Barcelona until someone told us about going by train for 10% of the price!

Heavy smokers and drinkers will think the Royal Beach is paradise but if like myself and my family, you do not smoke or enjoy getting legless every night, stay away!

One final warning, there are construciton works going on at the back of the hotel which we were not told about before going!! So you cannot sleep in beyond 9am on most days because of being woken up by a drilling sound.
