we actually went the end of January 2008 and loved the royal catalonia, the extra $$ is so worth the beautiful room and the relaxation from a kid free zone. the royal side is much more relaxed and laid back. if you want a party it was a five minute walk to the regular catalonia where their wonderful staff always made sure there was a party atmosphere going on at the pool and beach. it was much more crowded on that side but seemed everyone was having a blast. we were more into romantic days for us so the royal beach and pool was perfect. We had a wonderful dinner at the french restaurant and a total blast at the japanesse, the steakhouse atmoshpere was my least favorite. the buffets in the morning at the main one was great. everything you could want and more for breakfast. i have no complaints about this resort, i found it beautiful and relaxing. the weather was great no rain at all, and the sun was strong, we got some good color! we booked all our ala cartes the 1st night there and got that out of the way. we did tip because they well deserve it. they work so hard there. everyone has a "hola" for you. so friendly from the other tourists ( practically all european or canadian we were the only ones from ny) to the staff. i loved this resort for a beautiful relaxing vacation!!!!

My wife and I stayed here a few years back but cant find a tour operator from the UK that goes to the Royal any more.
