I stay 50+nights a year in hotels, mostly in Asia and Europe. You get used to different ways of doing things and different cultures, its part of the fun of travelling. Feeling ripped off isn't!
Some of the joys of the "Royal" Cliff......
Laundry boiling (to death) a $500 us brioni dress shirt, without compensation. When things go wrong here they send lots of staff with zero english to smile at you. Wages (around $2/day) are cheap here. Management has its hands tied (presumably by the owners), don't expect problems to be sorted.
Telephone not working in room (400$/night room). Discovered when several people tried calling to be told "he not in room".
3.50$ us extra for a slice of toast with breakfast!
"Limousine" service more keen to promote "white water rafting" at SabaiLand (local uber brothel) than take you anywhere you might want to go (although this seems to be a charming "thai custom" in most parts of the country)
Check out that takes 45 minutes because they have to check, re check and check again every scrap of paper you've ever signed.
Constantly being asked to sign paperwork for their accounts people.
We now stay at the Marriott when in town - only slightly better, but half the price.

This is the third time we have stayed in The Royal Cliff Terrace. It is fantastic. We are going again in two weeks time for the Thai New Year. We have stayed in numerous other Hotels in Thailand but this is SIMPLY THE BEST! You just can't describe it. You have to go there and sample it for yourself. The only thing is, it spoils you for staying in other Hotels as they have just not come up to the same standards as this Hotel.
