Sa Coma Travel Guide: Great Resort for families

Written by Tracey Burns on 22 May 2007 about a trip in May 2007.
Trip was for a family on holiday. Tracey Burns would definitely visit again.

Sa Coma shopping

6.0
There are plenty of souvenir shops but also some good leather goods shops if you want to spend your holiday shopping

Sa Coma nightlife

9.0
no problems here - felt safe with two kids in tow walking along the prom at night and through the streets back to the hotel

Britannia and Kings Head have entertainment such as Karaoke and Bingo but the staff don't speak good English

White Lion serves good meals and last year (2006) had a small beer garden with a pool table which my kids loved

Royal Oak serves huge portions (too big really) and the staff are British so it was easy to get them to change the menu a little to suit my kids

There is not much night life and we only saw one group of girls on a hen night - Cala Millor is close by and I believe it does offer more entertainment at night

Sa Coma restaurants

8.0
Cala Moreya is closer to S'Illot along the prom and serves wonderfully cooked fish meals

Sa Coma attractions

7.0
take a trip to the Castle up on the headland for great views over Sa Coma and Cala Millor - it's only about 1.5 km and you can take a bike or pony ride up there

Sa Coma day trips

Take a glass bottom boat - regular trips go from Sa Coma to Cala Millor, Cala Bona and Porto Cristo (under 12s free)

Caves of Drach at Porto Cristo - get there by boat or bus. We would have preferred the non escorted tour as the show at the end is just music on an illuminated row boat but you are crammed in like sardines.

Grand Tour via Toscana - a couple of hours in Palma, train from Bunyola to Soller, boat from Soller to La Colobra, coach through mountains back to resort. A lot of time on the coach but beware no scheduled toilet stops. Not enough time in Palma to do much and would have preferred more time on the train. We were herded on and off the train with no time for photographs. We only had 10 minutes in Soller before getting on the boat which was the most unpleasant part of the trip - prices for a drink at La Colobra were very expensive but essential. The mountain pass is spectacular and a bit hair raising.

Marineland is worth a visit to see the Dolphin Show and the Parrots but not much to do otherwise as it is not a very big place.

Getting to Sa Coma

8.0
Plane to Palma Airport and about one hour on a coach to Sa Coma

Getting around Sa Coma

plenty of places to hire bikes and cars. boat takes you to Cala Millor, Cala Bona, Porto Cristo and other places down the East Coast if you want a relaxing day out. regular train between the resorts - you can now get a train from Manacor to Palma. plenty of bus stops

When to visit Sa Coma

We have only been to Sa Coma in the middle of May which is very early in the season so it is quieter. The weather both times has been lovely and warm (May 2006 and May 2007). Cala Millor is only 1km away and it is a larger resort with more shopping and nightlife.

Keep it quiet but this resort is great
We have been to Sa Coma 8 times and in 2003 stayed in Alcudia for a change, but still went back to Sa Coma 4 nights. The resort has a great beach and enough restaurants/Pubs without being too big....

    Sa Coma: public transport
05 Apr 2008 by Eoin Cunneen
Is there a bus i can get from palma to sa coma or cala millor
    >> Answer this question

    >>Answer 1 by Tracey Burns (06 Apr)

There are not many public transport options to the East coast, those that exist are irregular. If you just need transfers to and from Palma airport, for example, it is possible to prebook a taxi/minibus for a reasonable cost. I wanted to visit Palma (from Sa Coma) for a day and was advised to hire a car or take a taxi.
