Sahara Hotel and Casino: Highly recommended! by Suzie, London |
| Posted 01 October 2005 about a visit in March 2005 | Overall rating: 8.5 |
My family and I (all adults) stayed for 5 nights at 'Sahara' back in April 2005. This was our third visit to fabulous Las Vegas. We had previously stayed at 'Circus, Circus' (see my other review) but opted for a change this year. We were very impressed by 'Sahara'. I think it is totally under-rated. It is a budget hotel, not that you'd know it. The rooms are spacious, clean and pretty luxurious. We had an amazing view of the 'Stratosphere' tower from our window. The decor was tasteful and smart.
The 'Sahara' casino is brilliant. Check out 'Enchanted Unicorns' video-slot game. My sister was addicted! The comps here are very good. We ate for free every night!
Talking of eating, the buffet is super! OK, nothing too fancy, but a wide selection including pizza and pasta. Great value for money (although we earned so many comp points, we ate for nothing most of the time).
'Sahara' is one of the stops on the monorail system, which is handy.
Honestly, why not stay in a so-called budget hotel and spend the cash you've saved in the casino or in the near-by outlet shops!
'Sahara' is at the far end of The Strip, but an inexpensive taxi will take you to the 'big' hotels a bit further down. If you are feeling fit and energetic, then stroll down there and take in the sights, sounds and ambience of Vegas on the way (it's not that far!).
We are booked to return to 'Sahara' in May 2006 and we cannot wait!
Have fun!

Sahara Hotel and Casino: USA Trip - Part 3 by Ian Lewis 1 |
| Posted 12 May 2005 about a visit in June 2005 | Overall rating: 7.0 |
This was our third stop of our USA trip. The Sahara is at the north end of the strip, very close to the stratosphere. Most of the action in Vegas happens at the bottom/middle end of the strip so take this into consideration. However, the Sahara is now connected via the overhead tram which stops off at all the major hotels and casinos on the strip.
The room we had was a decent size, and was clean, and had a cable tv. You have to pay a $1 a day fee for the phone (even if you don't use it) and a $3 a day electricity tax. This is payable when you check out but is something that is not included when you book and pay for it in advance. The best thing about this hotel, and is the same as a lot of hotels in Vegas, is that it has its own casino. It also has a couple of rides at the hotel too - but we never went on them. The hotel has a decent sized swimming pool but again, never used it as this was the last thing we wanted to do in Vegas.
The food is cheap as they want to you to stay as long as possible at the hotel. We managed to get a steak meal for $8 (less than £5 each). The casino floor is large, with the usual blackjack, poker, and slots. The people on the tables are generally friendly and will help you out if you are a novice. There are a few bars and a few restaurants in the place, but we eat out most of the time.
For those on a budget, the Sahara has everything you need and was the best hotel we staying in out of our 4 hotels.
TIP: Make sure you shop around for trips to the Grand Canyon. The hotel was charging nearly double the price we paid to go. We booked ours through an advert in the tv guide, and included everything that the hotel trip had.
