Santa Croce in Fossabanda: Far from the Madding Crowd by TSB |

We'd researched this hotel before booking and it was described as ‘basic’ we would describe it as ‘plain’ there were no pictures on the walls and only one (which I don’t even remember looking at) in our bedroom. But then, we didn't go to Pisa to look at the hotel bedroom walls. The room was perfectly adequate; it had enough space for 2 adults and the bonus of an air-conditioning unit. The bed was firm and comfortable and there was enough space in the wardrobe for all our clothes etc.
The en-suite bathroom was lovely and although the shower was compact, there was enough room to carry out the essentials.
Above all the bedroom and bathroom, were spotlessly clean, which to us means more than 'fancies'.
The only meal served was continental breakfast (hams, cheeses, cereals, bread rolls, croissants, conserves, fruit, yoghurt, assortment of teas and of course coffee), which set us up for the morning. The only strange things were the orange and pineapple juice, which didn't taste as they were described but no worry, we drank the refreshing, cold bottled water instead.
The hotel was located just outside the city centre, which was reached in @ 10 minutes by bus or even faster by taxi. On approaching it we were aware of posters on billboards and graffiti but once inside the reception, it was like a haven, which seemed far away from the hustle of the centre and the world outside its doors. Even the bells chiming or the occasional plane going over the hotel didn't disturb us unnecessarily.
If I could add one thing to the lovely surroundings within the grounds of the hotel, it would be comfortable lounging chairs, sun-loungers? I'm not sure but somewhere to sit and appreciate the tranquillity.
The hotel was great value for money and the staff professional & friendly, especially when we addressed them in faltering Italian. We would definitely return.
