the pool

I booked two weeks at this resort, staying with 12 family members.

We got to the hotel very late saturday night, and were given our room keys straight away. I was in a double room on my own, two floors above the reception. The room was very tide if a little small. Two single beds, a window over-looking the inside of the complex, plenty of room for clothes, bathroom was very small with a slanting roof, so standing up in the bath for a shower was impossible. But all in all i was pleased with my room. The only thing with the rooms is that the walls are paper thin and you can hear your neighbours, the kids in the hall ways and the music until midnight, so you can forget about have a early night!

I found the food ok. There was a different menu for each day, apart from chips every day! The pool bar was very handy serving food and drink throughout the day.

The drink was not too bad apart from the larger, Amestel which nobody seemed to like, so we started drinking the spirits!

The staff here are amazing. The will bend over backwards to help you, and the bar staff are polite, although their english was a little poor, apart from the english lady at reception, she was very helpful. The cleaners were working all the hours they could and it shows, it was very clean.

The baech is a 15min walk from the hotel, but the free bus only took a few min. The train station is also not far and for a nice beach i would recomend jumping on to lloret de mar.

This is a hotel for kids, but if you fancy going clubbing we went into malagrat de mar for a few good clubs, and a taxi back is very cheap, but very hard to order when your drunk and cant speak spanish!

The only really bad thing i could say about the place is the ammount of flys! They are everywhere and after the first few days they drove me mad, but its not just at the hotel, its the whole area!

So all in all for the price i would recomend this hotel for people with kids, but if like me you want the sun and clubbing, you would be better looking for a 18-30 holiday. But if you are looking for a relaxing holiday, with a budget this is the place!

thanks to all the staff there!

Santa Susana Resort: Latent insight? by Si Foggy
Posted 17 May 2005 about a visit in July 2002
I think this place seems to polarise to at least two extremes! It seems that people on the main road aspect (?front) semed to have stories of noise and mayhem, and others seemed to be concerned with the lack of entertainment? When we visited it certainly was not 5star hilton, but neither wre the prices! and you certainly where not prevented from exploring further,(even further than Burger King).Treat it like an ALL!, yes all inclusive YMCA you can't be disapointed! We had fun and we took a large party abroad on a BUDGET!. And still managed to buy some goodies in the supermarket next door. Yes, great Air Conditioning!

we visited this hotel for two weeks and were absolutely devastated when we read the reviews already posted here. We decided to go ahead with an open mind. We arrived at about 9.30 in the morning after travelling from the early hours of the morning only to be told the rooms would not be available until late afternoon. having two young children with us, we ended up getting changed in the toilets and going to the pool. We were given awful wristbands to wear which wer eput on far too tightly by the reception staff.

The rooms were quite basic and I would say if you go with young children, let them have the "double bed" and have the two singles yourself! the rooms were very clean and the maids were at work from early morning until late in the evening.

It was a Friday when we arrived and we met up with the loud disco across the road the next night. it went on all night so we were unable to sleep. The bedrooms could do with updating a little and double glazed doors to keep out the noise from the hotel entertainment would be a definite plus, there was no point in going to bed before midnight as you could hear everything! The rooms got very hot as there was no air conditioning in them and you needed the doors shut because of the noise.

The food was ok, nothing special and you did seem to see bits recycled the next day in various guises. Breakfasts were always the same and they seemed to be english sausages and not german frankfurters! There seemed to be plenty of choice although by the end of two weeks it did start to get a little monotonous. (Burger King is not far away). As I reminded my family, they get one choice at home and here they were faced with far to many choices! The pool bar was great, the children could go and get a snack whenever they wanted and there was the choice of using this or having a proper meal downstairs, although for me it was the guests who let the place down. They were so rude and had absolutely no respect for anyone. They were eating non stop all day and leaving rubbish strewn around not to mention hotel towels around the pool. There are notes everywhere saying no crystal glasses by the pool to stop accidents but they were often left by the pool where the children were playing.

The staff at the hotel worked so hard too with many starting off in the restaurant and then going on to man the poolside bar and often the night-time bar. They were able to speak basic english but if you want two different drinks you've shot it! They also have a knack of asking you what you want to drink then walking away and putting the drink at the end of the bar without telling you leaving you stood there!

The hotel have an animation team there who put on games and entertainment all day ranging from french boules to Disney films for the children. John who teaches swimming to the children was fabulous in the water and all the children flocked around him like he was the Pied Piper. The whole area was completely fenced in so the children could not stray out of the complex which was good as the main road was right outside the main doors. Knowing that the children were happy was a relief.

We did find that always being around the hotel was too much and ventured out quite a bit.

The inside of the hotel was all wood panelling which must have been varnished so many times that I doubt the smoke detector would have detected anything! The benches inside were ok for the first 10 minutes and after that became unbearable. They need a few comfy sofas!!

Entertainment at night time seemed to be the same all the time and most people sat around playing cards!

the supermarket next door is a godsend and stocks most things. The hotel did not give out drinks of water it was fizzy drinks or spirits, and all full sugar. I hate to think what the ice cream contained.

We wouldn't really go again and would say that if you are young not to even bother with the hotel, find somewhere else with a bit of life to it. Good for families who want the children to have a good time but again not really any evening entertainment and the children cant go to bed because of the noise. Happy to be home.

Mind you it's almost worth a visit to see the early morning sun bed palaver. The pool cleaner waits until the very last moment to unlock the sunbeds, you can see him almost laughing at them and thinking he'll eep you waiting just a bit longer and the scramble for the best spots is unbelievable. People queue up with cups of tea and as for towels they are everywhere reserving spots. What they dont tell you is that they do have sun brollys but they are hidden behind the snack bar though there are not many bases for them. check it out for a laugh!

Santa Susana Resort: Santa Susana Club by Potz
Posted 05 May 2002
I believe I had no alternative but to cancel my family holiday last year which I booked with COSMOS through TOMSON DIRECT. We had booked 2 weeks all inclusive at the Santa Susanna Club, Santa Susana, Costa Brava, Spain. At the time of the booking, we had tried a number of selections which unfortunately were not available, did not have all the available concessions (ie. Free child) or exceeded our available budget. The Santa Susana Club seemed like a dream. It looked pretty good in the brochure, it had childrens clubs for all ages, pool, playground etc. We were offered some attractive discounts and good flight times with no surcharge, so all in all we we very happy with our choice. The process of selecting and booking our 2001 holiday was made over an approxiamate three hour period and as I said before we were so happy at getting, what at face value seemed an ideal package, we did no more than sit back with a big smile on our faces.

Being curious and having the power of the internet at home I began to do some surfin'. What I experienced was an absolute shock. Travel consumer sites all over the internet included accounts of holiday makers who had visited this hotel and nearly everyone described a 'Holiday from Hell'. The dangerous location, food, entertainment, facilities, nearly every facet of the package holiday was criticised. The hotel was also featured on a national TV Travel Programme which also described the poor conditions with actual accounts by holiday makers who were staying there. I realise that there is a substantial element of choice in holidays and peoples expectations can be different. I also appreciate that it is highly likely that those people who have not enjoyed their holidays are more likely to post there miserable accounts on internet travel sites, rather than those who have enjoyed there experience. There may also be a number of generally disgruntled people who may use the power of the internet to 'attack' the establishment and use some poetic license in doing so. Taken this into account I am still overwhelmed by the sheer volume of people who, before and since the TV expose on the hotel, have such bad things to report and what is more of a concern is how COSMOS seem to have failed to get the message and are still sending people there. My main issue is that armed with all this information I chose to cancel my holiday. I did have the option of transferring to another holiday and incurring the administration fees, however time had now elapsed and I was not likely to get the same deal. I requested if the paid deposit of £300 could be transferred to a holiday from the 2002 brochure, but that was declined by COSMOS. TOMSON DIRECT have been sympathetic and supportive in my complaint, however as they inform me my holiday contract is with COSMOS and therefore only they can consider any compensation in these circumstances.

From a legal standpoint do I have any redress against COSMOS for cancelling a holiday which in my opinion no longer represented the holiday, which I thought I had booked and therefore had now, no intention of completing ?

The Brochure from which I booked cleverly disguised the main road which ran adjacent to the hotel, by the use of carefully positioned inserts, made no mention of the nightclub which stood accross the road and played loud music until 6am, nor the trecherous route that needed to be navigated to get to the beach. All these and more did not give me a comfortable feeling that this was a safe environment for my young family. I cancelled and COSMOS said that under the circumsatnces, I had broken the terms and conditions and therefore took my £300 deposit, they stated that in their expert opinion the hotel was representative of both it's star rating and brochure description. They also stated that they had sent a large number of holiday makers, including their own representatives to this hotel over past months, who were totally satisfied. I am disappointed with COSMOS to the point that I will never consider booking a holiday with them again. I think I had needlessly lost £300, but in retrospect made the right choice. I did not expect to get my full deposit back, however I believe that COSMOS could have taken some responsibility, given the circumstances and made some offer of compensation.

Holidaymakers like myself save long and hard for their annual vacation and rely heavily on Travel Agents/Companies in providing accurate information which will allow them to make a selection based on their needs and expectations. To this end the Travel Agents/Companies must have a moral obligation to make us, the consumer aware of problems/issues, stop taking our money under false pretences and take action where it is clear that the levels of accomodation and service are not satisfactory.

I am still in dispute with COSMOS over loss of my deposit, since the information on many other sites, together with a national TV expose encouraged me to cancel. I am collecting as much information as I can regarding the hotel, facilities and service and would welcome any comments from anyone who has been, good and bad, there or may have been placed in the same position I was.

Many Thanks
