Shangri-La: Best Hotel in Kuala Lumpur by Anne Wright |
| Posted 04 May 2008 about a visit in March 2007 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
My husband and I stayed 3 nights here on our way back from Australia. Our travel agent recommended the Shangri-La because where we had originally chosen was undergoing some refurbishment. We are so glad we ended up here - what a fantastic hotel - beautifully furnished large bedrooms with lots of facilities - the number of combinations of bedside lighting was amazing! Our stay included free breakfast and wow what a choice, including milk and white chocoloate fountains! We also had the buffet in the same restaurant (Lemon Garden) on two evenings and the food and choice were to die for. The first evening the Head Chef personally took us on a guided tour round the various buffet counters and with great pride described all the lovely goodies. It was the first time we had stayed at a Shangri-La but if we go back to KL we shall certainly stay there again. We also hope to try out the Shangri-Las in Singapore and Sydney on another trip.

Shangri-La: Fantastic Five Star Hotel by Elaine Kerr |

If luxury is what your after then this is the hotel for you!
I stayed here for the first leg of my honeymoon and what a great start it was.
The hotel lobby is absolutely stunning, the staff are extremly friendly, the room was spotless and the view from the window was amazing.
The Shangri-La is ideal for all major tourist attractions, Petronas Towers (Free to go up to the sky bridge but get there early for your tickets), Communication tower(Revolving restaurant set price for all you can eat fantastic selection), The national park (where you will find the national monument- the bird park - the orchid park), also right outside is the monorail which is great value and very easy to use to get out and about.
The hotel has many eating establishments, these are a little pricey compared to restaurants out and about however breakfast in the lemon garden cafe is a must, depending on your deal we got breakfast for free, you could quite easily eat for hours so make sure you take your paper with you and prepare to relax - On offer for breakfast there is everything you could imagine western, Chinese, japanese and Malay. For the chocoholics out there the chocolate fountain with fresh strawberries is to die for (yes for breakfast).
Entertainment in the hotel is very good, in the English pub there is a group who are there most nights and the lobby lounge also has entertainment on which is very good. Again the drinks are a little dearer than outside the hotel.
The hotel also offers a fitness centre and swimming pool, the pool is great situated on the second floor, towels provided and you can take your complimentary bath robe down to go back and forth to room. The view from the pool area is fabulous, very surreal sitting in a swiming pool looking up at skyscrapers.
We ordered room service on the first night and it was also very good, the waiter came and set up a table in the room and collected it when we were finished, food quality was great.
Most important of all the beds are very comfy, after all the sightseeing which is a must in KL especially if its your first time relaxing at night certainly isnt a problem.

Shangri-La: Stay Here by Stuart Foster |

If you ever go to Kuala Lumpur stay at the Shangri La.
This is a five star luxuirous hotel set in a prominent position in the heart of the city. It is a stone throw away from all the major sites: The KL Tower, Twin Petronas Towers, Shopping Malls and the financial district.
The staff here are extremely competant and can not do enough for you.
The rooms are very clean, large and comfortable. If you can, I recomend you stay in a suite, these are located on the top floor, I had the view of the Twin Towers right outside my window.
The hotel has just undergone a major refurbishment, everything looks so modern and well planned out.
Its hard to say much more about this hotel because it is so good. I have stayed in five other hotels in KL but this was my favourite one closely followed by the Pan Pacific.
