Although a lot must have changed since I went in 2000, this hotel was excellent! The service the food the cleanliness all excellent. The food was fantastic but you have to be aware that the veg can create a problem if eaten in abundance I was warned, something to do with the way they are watered when grown and can cause certain diseases of the liver!! If this is true I can not be positive, but the source was believable as he was a local Doctor!

I am a blonde lady and Arabs love blondes, so be sure not to roam the streets alone if you are a lady as I quickly found when walking only 50 ft from the hotel that many cars stopped and Arabs tried to pull me forcefully into a car! You must be with a male at all times! I was correctly dressed, meaning wearing a blouse and skirt at time with no womanly parts exposed!

I had a lovely spacious suite in the hotel which was well provided with everything a lady or a gentleman would need! The sheets were crisp white linen and the beds extremely comfortable! Good air conditioning and blackout curtains as the sun was up at 4am already! So romantic to hear the voices of prayer from the mosques would you believe, and you could smell the scent in the air from the tiny white flowered necklaces that children sported - amongst the traffic as they ran from car to car selling as many of them as they could!

It is a little off putting when disembarking your flight to see armed soldiers at the bottom of the walkway but you soon get used to seeing them around!

I went to many alfresco nightclubs which had excellent shows with belly dance, traditional old Egyptian dance, unbelievable magic and great singers. All in Arabic of course as what is the point of going if not to sample a countries culture!
Fantastic nights out and fabulous tasty meals, all a very short taxi ride from the hotel.

Of course I visited The Pyramids and The Sphinx which were fantastic and sampled the ice cold freshly made lemonade which was made in front of me I hasten to add in the desert. "Iced drink in the desert" wow it was very refreshing! I have never drank lemonade as good as that anywhere else in the world!

The main pyramid was quite difficult to negotiate at the time internally as you climbed what seemed like a long long rung ladder, quite low passage which gradually went higher and higher up the pyramid which was narrow with people descending at the same time, and was not able to stand up during this flight of the ladder passage! By the time I reached the top chamber I was soaked with perspiration and relieved that I was wearing trousers and flat shoes for the obvious reason! The tomb although fascinating wreck of urine!

One evening I spent in the desert sitting on cushions in a very large Arab tent where magnificent entertainment was laid on and great feasts with chilled wine were served continuously all evening. Beautiful golden oil lamps and rugs adorned the walls of the tent with lavish cushions and rugs on the floor with jewel embellished low tables adorned with exotic coloured/scented flowers and of course where you received your feasts for the night! Fire dancing, high class belly dancing and singing all the way through the night till the sunrise. A fantastic evening if you can get into one of these private parties. I believe some are put on for tourists, and encourage everyone to experience this kind of evening!

I visited the local markets during the day and purchased a host of Egyptian house robes, beautifully made in silk and beautiful gold and gems embroidered into the garments. Jewellery that you wish you had not set your eyes upon as you want to buy it all! I haggled of course and was successful as I am lucky enough to be able to speak Arabic! (I am English) I bought perfumed oils by the ounce and an Egyptian Lute which I was able to play and numerous bronze figurines etc etc etc. I visited the museums to see the mummies etc which was extremely interesting, although normally I shy away from such places. You must see all! There is such a lot to experience in Cairo and anyone visiting Cairo who says there is nothing to see or do have failed miserably and waisted their money travelling to Cairo! You must mix with the locals to find everything and you will be fully rewarded as I was!

I will go again and again and again and again............................

only stayed for 2 nights here as we were doin a lot of travel around Egypt, but this hotel is fantastic as are all the Sheraton group. i did not think a lot of Cairo itself, but the hotel more than made up for it. clean, comfy, great staff and the food was excellent. the best steak meal i hav ever had in my life is in the hotel restaurant on the hotels ground floor.
You have not lived to you have stayed in this place!
