Sidari shopping

The shops in Sidari are full of gifts catering for almost anything. The prices are very good although it is always worth shopping around a little.

Sidari nightlife

There are plenty of tavernas showing different British TV programmes, Sport, Films etc. Also Kareoke bars and cabaret nights are advertised everywhere you go. These always stay open til very late!
The only danger I have ever encountered is the dark streets on the way home, remember to take a torch with you!

Sidari restaurants

So many good restaurants line the whole main street. I really enjoy Faro's as you can eat inside or out in the open air by the beach. You cannot miss this one as it has a lighthouse on top. The Three Little Pigs is also a must! The meals are terrific and they also give you evening entertainment with your meal. This restaurant is just on the corner as you take the road to Canal D AMour.

Sidari attractions

There is the little Church of St Nicholas in the square off the main road, famous for its icon painted domed interior porchway. The most famous landmark is of course the Canal DAmour with the myth that if a young maiden swims through the canal, she will she the face of the man she will marry. This is a very pretty area and well worth a stroll along the pathways that take you up around the canal.
As well as the main Sidari beach, you can find small beaches around Canal DAmour area.

Sidari events

The Greek Night Out should not be missed. Although not actually held in Sidari, you can book it from here. The price generally inculdes the food, wine, entertainment and the coach travel. Make sure you take a camera or even better, a camcorder!

Sidari day trips

Last year we went on the day trip to Albania. This can be booked through your travel operator or from the vendors on the streets. The prices vary a little. The day was brilliant, we had a meal included in the price and visited an ancient site called Butrinti, we also got a stamp in our passport, not for much longer as Albania is due to join the EEC soon.
This trip is not for everyone, it was a long day and very hot walking around the site. We also had alot of attention from begging children on the streets when we went for souveniers in the town but our guide was brilliant and looked after us really well!
We did get a chance to pick up a few souveniers from Albania, much of it was hand made linen, tshirts, mugs etc.
Cigarettes were very cheap! but we were only permitted to buy 200 each! It worked out about £7 for 200!

Sidari History and Culture

Sidari is a very commerically made town to tailor for the tourists.
The Corfuits are very very friendly and always polite and helpful.

Getting to Sidari

The transfer from the airport is around a hour and a half to two hours, depending where you are staying and who gets dropped off first. You get some lovely views on the way as you climb up and over one of the mountainous ranges there. This can be quite an ordeal if you have just spent hours getting to Corfu through the airports and are tired and hot, but well worth it!
The trip to Corfu town is around an hour by coach.

Getting around Sidari

There is a bus service to Corfu town but we found that the coach trips are adequate for the amount of time we needed to visit. There are plenty of travel shops with large boards outside advertising the trips.
Just one thing, the coaches never run on time, be prepared to wait, you can wait for almost a hour past stated pick-up time.
There are also many car and scooter hire shops if you dare to venture out on the roads.

When to visit Sidari

We find that October is just right for us! We like to walk and explore and although it is still hot when we go, it is not quite as hot as in July/August when tempertures can reach 34/35 degrees.
The weather in October is still hot enough to swim although you may get a day when you get a little rain and even an odd storm. We had one day last year that did just that but soon passed leaving fine sunny warm weather the remainder of our holiday.
