Silver Sands is a reasonable 4 Star hotel which is situated at the bottom of Barbados and therefore the car we hired came in very useful, indeed we would have felt a little bit out on a limb without it. The beach is quite exposed and is therefore that part of the ocean which is a paradise for windsurfers. When we stayed there we happened to fall upon one of the championship competitions and it was amazing to watch the windsurfers perform their fantastic moves, a real bonus. A few weddings took place as well, which were attended very smoothly by the hotel staff, everything seemed to flow very well from where we were watching anyway! Quite a few guests seemed to be Italians but there was a general mixture of nationalities probably because of the windsurfing. We stayed room only but should we return would definitely make enquiries into staying all inclusive or at least half board as generally Barbados is quite an expensive island and the hotel rates reflect this. The outside dining area is very pleasant and very relaxing in the evening with lights hung around a gazebo like area in the gardens.

A must see: Bathsheba, is an area on the coast which is absolutely awesome, like a biblical timewarp, the crashing waves at one end and the ocean in the distance which seems to advance at an alarming rate where you can stand on the smooth flat pounded rocks and look as if you are walking on water! Beautiful.

A must do: Hastings, Friday night Fish fry, a great opportunity to mingle with the Barbadian locals at this traditional fry up! The fish is gorgeous, fresh cooked in foil, barbecue style and very cheap. The locals seem to meet in various large huts in a market type area where they dance the night away in a most soulful way, and the atmosphere is a real experience.

A must visit: Crane beach, a very beautiful beach which seems to be deserted although it is actually voted as one of the seven greatest beaches in the world. Perhaps this is because it is not the easiest one to find, but is really worth the visit. There is a resident lifeguard who seems to have the easiest job in the world. Once down on the beach you feel like you are on a film set, it is a very romantic place to be.

I would love to return to Barbados and revisit these wonderful places.
