Sol Antillas / Barbados: Excellent family hotel - Ideal location - Friendly helpful staff by Joanne Evans |
| Posted 09 July 2008 about a visit in June 2008 | Overall rating: 9.4 |
We don't go abroad regularly and I don't often get to the end of the holiday not ready to come home but this is without doubt the best holiday we have had in Europe. Unfortunately we only stayed 4 nights having stayed 4 nights somewhere else on Majorca. I really wish I had booked the full stay at the Sol Antillas.
The room was huge for a family of 3. (4 would still have oodles of room) A queensize bed for us and a double sofa bed for our daughter. There was plenty of hanging space and it was very clean. The bathroom was spacious and well stocked. Nothing flash but everything you need. The AC worked well and it was really needed as it was 30 degrees all week.
The view over Magaluf bay was stunning although not all rooms in the hotel would have the same view. The balcony on a evening was a lovely place to chill with a drink once our daughter went to bed. Which wasn't very early as there was so much to do for kids at the hotel.
There is a kids club which runs morning afternoon and evening sessions. Some are free and some have a small charge but are totally worth it. We were only there 4 nights and they put on a show, a pirates party, an indian party, t shirt painting, water games. The staff at the kids club were brilliant and to my relief it was very organised. They booked the kids in, gave them wristbands, marched them down to the kids area and then locked them in. As safe as I have seen any kids club abroad.
The food was excellent with a huge choice and good quality. They always had someone cooking fresh pasta to order plus daily specials and hot and cold buffet. If I have to think of something they could do better I would have liked more seafood but I am being really picky just for the sake of it.
Its location is ideal as I had heard Magaluf had a reputation (You know what I mean) but this hotel is right at one side of the bay so you are not caught up in the night clubbing scene at all. That said you can walk into the centre in 10 minutes so have the best of everything. Not that you need to leave the hotel for entertainment even for adults. We watched a circus show, the kids show, a couple of bands and the european cup final during our short stay. Perhaps that's why the Spanish were so happy?? There was also an international themed carnival type party on one night with different stalls from around the world around the pool area. Absolutely loved it.
There are 3 good sized pools and there is an exit from the complex that leads directly onto a lovely beach with plenty of sunbeds and safe marked out swimming zones.
Its a 15 min walk to the waterparks, 10 minutes to the pirate show and in car anywhere in the island can be reached easily. We did Marineland, Caves of Drach etc.
I have never left a review for a holiday before but I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. We are definitely going to book again for 2009.
I usually like to balance an opinion with some drawbacks but to be honest I cannot think of any. (Except seafood) The hotel was not full of English which I like but a very mixed split and all the staff have excellent language skills.
This is not the cheapest hotel in Magaluf but its totally worth it.
They don't let lilos in the pools. There I found a negative.
Just book and enjoy.

This was our 2nd visit to the hotel, 2003 thought the hotel was good 2005 rooms had been refurbished and were beond the 4 stars it has got. Situated at the end of Magaluff beach so quiet at night but only a short walk into Magaluff it self, staff were very good, food was ok but all the food in Magaluff is just ok, booked to go back again June 05.

Sol Antillas / Barbados: Stayed here September 1999 by I'llAlwaysBeKarasGirl |

This hotel was lovely, very clean and the staff were nice. The food was OK, but we ended up eating out most the time anyway as Magaluf was so cheap. The pubs and clubs are great. Spent a lot of time at the Local Pub, not far from Barbados Sol, it was always good fun. Tried BCMS and Millennium Club underneath BCMs, met Denise Van Outen and Julian Clary!!! I really enjoyed Magaluf and would go back......

Stayed here a number of times last time being December 2003. this hotel is everything you would expect from a Sol company hotel. Clean tidy excellent choice of food nice rooms especially those overlooking the sea and in a quiet location overlooking the bay. Would definately recommend it.

Sol Antillas / Barbados: Gods Waiting Room by Respite |

We stayed in Sol Elite Barbados during Easter week 2002.Hotel and rooms very smart and clean. Staff efficient rather than friendly. Food (Buffet style all meals with A La Carte Option extra ) very samey and rather on the cool side. Most guests during our time there were Spanish pensioners enjoyed a winter break so Hotel was not a very lively place at night. Great location for beach access but we preferred the amenities in the much smarter and adjoining sister hotel Sol Elite Antillas. Magalluf itself appeared to be mostly closed for winter.
Few bars open during day less at night.
Food in resort of an overall poor quality ie. cheap and nasty fast food.
