Sol Magalluf Park: A nice surprise by Michael D Hughes |
| Posted 02 September 2006 about a visit in July 2006 | Overall rating: 8.1 |
I chose this Airtours hotel with a certain reluctance because whenever I have gone with Airtours something has gone wrong. Well, something did, but it wasn't the hotels' fault - my outward flight was changed from 6pm to 6am!
When I eventually flopped, tired, hungry and thirsty, into my single room at midday my mood brightened on seeing it was on a high floor with a sea view: just what I asked for. It was large with a comfy armchair and stool, though rather lacking drawer space. The dining room is huge so there were no problems finding an empty table. Some folks seem to expect caviar and champagne in three star hotels - I found the food excellent, lots of meat, fish and pasta. Room service also very good.
I go out bar crawling every night, and the main bar strip, Punta Ballena, is just 5-10 minutes walk away. For the more sober (or lazy?) there seemed to be entertainment by the pool every night. Day trippers will welcome the bus stop to Palma being just round the corner from the hotel entrance (do start out before 9.30am after which they get packed).
One word of warning. You are welcome to request my room (903) but it (and obviously also 905, 907 etc) overlooks the very noisy square behind the BCM night club. Rooms facing inland might be quieter, but if you really need peace and quiet at night then stay in nearby Palma Nova.
