Sol Princesa Dacil: Worst hotel I have ever stayed in by Collette Doyle |
| Posted 19 May 2008 about a visit in March 2008 | Overall rating: 4.0 |
Myself and my partner booked a half board stay in the Sol Princessa Daciel from 7th to 14th March. We usually go to an apt but decided to give the half board a try. Never again. This has to be the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Most of the residents were elderly and went around in motorised scoooters. They even tried to bring them into the lifts. the lifts are a joke. There are two. One for floors 8-15 and one for floor 15 upwards. however, the lift for 8-15 was constantly in use (we were on floor 8) so we ended up walking up and down 16 flgiths of stairs for the duration of the holiday. The lifts are so tiny only 3 people can fit in at any one time (3 very thin people I might add!). Our room key was constantly being cancelled. We would return from the beach to discover we were locked out of our room so back down 16 flghts of stairs. The reception staff kept telling us they thought we had checked out which was why our key was cancelled. This happened every day. We had to pay 60 Euro for a fridge for the week. We arrived on Saturday but did not get the fridge until Sunday evening. When we came back from the beach on the afternoon of the following Friday our fridge had been removed and all our milk etc. taken out and left sitting in the sun. We only had the fridge 5 days! Then we had to fight to get our 20 euro deposit back as they kept telling us we had already received it.
The food was terrible. Breakfast consisted of rashers and eggs swimming in grease. There was the usual selection of cereal but no fresh milk just the long life variety. Toast was a nightmare. There was a toast machine that took about 10 mins to toast a slice so u can imagine the queues forming each morning. The juice was out of a machine and to me it tasted watered down.
Evening meal was just slopped out. The night we arrived we were offered our "dinner". Dinner was left over salad and soggy chips. No thanks. The salads were OK which is what I mostly ate for the duration of the holiday. It was the only holiday I ever went on and lost weight!
Entertainment consisted of an old man playing a key board in the reception every night with mostly elderly people trying to waltz around to the music.
Los Christianos is a lovely place and I would highly recommend it but I would definitely not recommend the hotel princessa dacile to my worst enemy.

Sol Princesa Dacil: a great holiday by Margaret Latta |
| Posted 10 August 2007 about a visit in July 2007 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
my 6 year old granddaughter and myself had a wonderful fortnight in the hotel princessa dacil. The staff were so nice very helpful and very friendly we had a suit which was very nice a sitting area and seperate bedroom the food at the hotel was very nice there was always a good selection.
The hotel is spotlessly clean and the childrens reps are second to none they are absolutly fantastic excellent with the children my little one had the time of her life she cried her eyes out because she didnt want to leave, mind you i could have stayed on myself we had such a great time. The hotel is in a great location for the beach and the shops the sunday market which was very good is just down the road from the hotel.

Sol Princesa Dacil: very bad attitude towards young people by Chris Dudding |
| Posted 22 September 2006 about a visit in September 2006 | Overall rating: 4.1 |
We traveld as 5 Familys and on arrival found the rooms very basic and poorly presented, the shower was 1 stream of water which blasted out !
Balcony had bird pooh all over it and was very small. The room service was ok but the just put the same sheets back on the bed all 2 weeks even when I put them on the floor as told by reception on my second complaint.
The food was poor I ate out after 3 nights, couldnt eat the bacon or sasuages.
Also you get free drinks with your breackfast but not your tea, WHY?
Lovely view from balcony but crap entertainment had to pay 10 euros a day for kids to be entertained ( and burnt alive told they would be in the shade ).
No value for money at all they just wanted my money I felt and once I was there it was just tougth.

Sol Princesa Dacil: Princess Dacil - in November by Gordon Hammond |
| Posted 23 February 2006 about a visit in November 2005 | Overall rating: 7.6 |
Four adults aged between 46 & 60 spent a week there in Nov 2005. It must have been block-booked by SAGA, as it was full of over old folks!! We found the Hotel very clean, with friendly staff who's command of English languague was better than some of the guests! There is a dress code for the restaurant posted on the board, but not everyone adheres to it (we did, and were melting halfway through dinner).
Our rooms were on the 2nd floor, overlooking the main entrance, and we didn't experience any problems with street noise at night (probably due the time of season). The room itself was quite small, and lacked aircon. The "balcony" was virtually non-existant - just enough room for two people to sit out.
Hotel food we found to be okay, with a varied menu that catered for different tastes. A carvery for roast joints, freshly made omellettes, meat grilled to your liking (both worth the wait). Traditional English cuisine with local specialities thrown in (like the Gazpacho - soup). Mostly cooked in oil, which is the med style of cooking, so what do you expect?! The fun bit at breakfast was the toaster, get one of the party to do the toast while everyone else gets breakfast, as it took several turns through the slow-moving machine to achieve brown toast (no- we couldn't turn it up as someone had taken the controls off). The chef's all seemed to be happy in their work, and the restaurant manager greeted all with a smile.
I found the resort of Los Christianos a bit dissapointing, very "touristy", with very little in the way of local culture on display. This applied to bars and restaurants, as well as the shopping facilities (what few there were). Chips with everything menus, and Brit beer in most bars.........fine if that's what you go for.
The biggest bugbear though was the Timeshare touts, or Holiday Club reps, or Holiday Ownership, or whatever else they call themselves. There's one at the entrance to the Hotel car park! All Brits, all start by giving you a scratchcard. One tip I found was that they only bother couples or small groups (up to about 4 or 6 people). They don't hassle singles are big groups.
I'd recommend hiring a car and seeing more of the Island - and the volcanic landscape of Mount Tidey in particular (breathtaking & cold !!) - the main motorway is great, as it goes full circle round the island so you can get on and off at loads of other places. You could just relax on the beach and watch the island ferries come and go from the harbour, the nice big Fred Olsen Line catamaran's impressive when it gets motoring. Bed & parasol hire's about 3 euro's each per day (or get two beds & a brolley for just 9 euro's - that's how some advertise it, in case you could work it out seperately). The nicer beach is just past the harbour, towards Playa De Las Americas (a busier, bigger, & noiser version of Christianos).
All in all, I'd go back to the Island, but not this resort or Hotel. I'd say it was for the more mature tourist. You can even hire those electric buggy things that diasbled folks use, so watch out !

Sol Princesa Dacil: Great Hotel - Shame about the Food by Lynda Rowsell |
| Posted 19 October 2005 about a visit in September 2005 | Overall rating: 7.3 |
Stayed on the 8th floor, overlooking the entrance and found this to be very noisy through the night. After speaking to reception we were moved to a room on the same floor, overlooking the pool and away from the road. This was a lot better. Cleaners very friendly and did a great job. Beds made every day and clean towels every day. We had a problem locking our door and maintenance came within five minutes and got it sorted.
Childrens entertainer was extremely good and kept them busy all day with a variety of things to do and the children really enjoyed themselves.
If there is a down side to this hotel it has to be the food. A big disappointment from four years ago. The bacon was thinly sliced, stuck together, cooked and served as one big lump. They do offer omelettes but you have to join a large queue and be prepared for a long wait.
Evening meals were so bad we ate out, costing us more money which we hadn't allowed for. They offered four bowls of salad, 2 lettuce, 1 tomato and 1 onion. Potatoes boiled and sitting in oil. Lots of chips. Pizza squares for children. Turkey which turned out to be chicken! Chicken undercooked and still pink in the centre, etc. etc.
Hotel very close to the Sunday market but you need to get there between 8.30-9am to avoid the rush. Also very close to the harbour.
Los Cristianos is a very friendly, family resort. Great restaurants and evening entertainment. Pedestrian friendly. Love it and can't wait to go back.

Sol Princesa Dacil: VERY PLEASANT EXPERIENCE by Margaret Cleave |
| Posted 11 October 2005 about a visit in August 2005 | |
After having read lots of bad reviews about the Princess Dacil, my friend and I did not expect a lot but were very very pleasantly surprised to find that what we had expected absolutely differed from what we found. On arriving at the hotel, we were impressed with the lovely entrance to the hotel foyer. At the reception desk we found the receptionist to be very friendly and totally professional and helpful. Our room was not quite ready for us and we were invited to have a free drink and sit outside for a short time which we did. On reaching our room on the 9th floor we were delighted to find we had been allocated a suite which was very spacious, clean and well furnished. We were delighted to hear that both breakfast and dinner times were from 6 until 10 in the mornings and evenings. The food itself was excellent being spoiled for choice at both meals. We found both chefs at the front of the house very professional and helpful. I particularly enjoyed my very large sirloin steak which had been freshly cooked! Although we did not stay in the hotel in the evening, we felt that the entertainment would have been enjoyable if we had chosen to stay. We particularly enjoyed the chap playing and singing at the keyboard in the foyer. All in all, our holiday was very enjoyable due to the fact that we had been fortunate to have stayed at the Princess Dacil and would thoroughly recommend the hotel to everyone.

Sol Princesa Dacil: A Princess That Is Not Royalty?! by Laney66 |
| Posted 03 September 2004 about a visit in July 2004 | Overall rating: 5.5 |
Just got back to England this morning from the Dacil. Tenerife is lovely-but not this place! Stayed 24th Aug - 2nd Sept in the middle of a heatwave. No air con in the room, although this was fairly presentable and none in the dining room which could be a nightmare to eat in because of the extreme heat. Windows obviously had to be opened making this prone to flies buzzing round the food laid out and your dining table. Not too hygenic!
Food was passable but not very inventive at all.
Stayed for 10 days and never got by the pool once because of towels covering the loungers in advance for hours on end. Thank God for the lovely beaches(And we used to complain about the Germans!)
Entertainment was crap, nothing for adults yet this hotel was advertised as being suitable for familes & couples. This was the first holiday I have ever had with my partner of 4 years without my daughter but at 10 years old, she would have been hard-pressed to enjoy this place with rude, unruly kids running everywhere, jamming the lift doors all the time.
I would not recommend this place at all until it has had a serious revamp, have stayed in better 2 stars than this! Tenerife is a very hot country, this place needs air-con throughout and the hotel should not have the cheek to charge you an additional fee to hire a fan during your stay. The outside of the building resembles a 60's tower block and needs a good clean or paint and the balconies leave a lot to be desired as the railings are splashed with pidgeon poo- surely not healthy!
In all, this place is YUK!!

Sol Princesa Dacil: nov02 by Tonto |
| Posted 06 January 2003 | Overall rating: 9.5 |
Spent two weeks here in Nov 02.
Can hardly fault the hotel. Clean, friendly staff, good position, I would recommend it to anyone young or old.
The room we had on the 14th floor was nice, and had air conditioning, the maids are 1st class.
the restaurant was well run, plenty of variety and there was no waiting.
Pool side is beautiful and never got too busy, a cafeteria sells cold/hot food and drinks. Beds are free but if you want a mattresses, there is a charge. There's plenty to do for the energetic during the afternoon, football/shooting /darts/keep fit and water polo.
Los Cris beach is only a 7 min dawdle away
The evening entertainment at the time of our holiday was poor, the English bar doesn't sell english beer, We went out every night and only used the bar for a nightcap.
one recommendation, try and get a poolside view.
People on the other side of the building were complaining about the wind keeping them awake.
One little niggle is, no fridge, so your constantly buying cold water, also they were referbishing room by room, at the time of our holiday.

Sol Princesa Dacil: MARCH 2002 by Andy Fisher |
| Posted 23 March 2002 | Overall rating: 8.0 |
I stayed here first in 1999 and have just had another week there. The rooms are being refurbished which is making things better. Restaurant is good and the staff, on the whole, are friendly and helpful.
Very good location as it's not at the top of any of the many hills.
