Sonemar: disasterous by Lyndsay Edge |
| Posted 06 December 2004 about a visit in July 2002 | Overall rating: 2.0 |
we went to this apaprtments with our 3 kids in 2002 our youngest was 17 months and i was assured that it was a family friendly place, how wrong, the place was so unsafe, as previously mentioned no rail on the stairs, the drop outside our bungalow to the road was dangerous, we couldnt let our toddler play, during our stay the privately owned apartment next door was being renovated noisily from 7 in the morning when we left they had a new verandah but i saw enough builders to last me a lifetime, the kids wouldnt eat the cold food the 5 yr old lived on bananas and chips
The tiles around the pool were not non slip so our little one had a nasty bruise on his head, we asked to be moved but were told nowhere else was available,
fumigating commenced whilst we were there and we had lots of bugs in our rooms, the travelcot provided was broken and unclean so the baby slept with us,not good at all, families with tiny kids beware.
would definately reccomend hiring a car it was our salvation gave us chance to get away. we did find the staff to be helpful and friendly and the apartments were cleaned it was just unsafe for our kids

| Stayed in The Sonemar Bungalows in Sept 2004. Both my Boyfriend and i booked a last min All Inclusive deal. Before leaving i did check this site to see people's reviews, i was totally and utterly shocked by the comments, i really thought we'd booked a rough place to stay in. But we just hoped we'd make the holiday our own. Arriving at the apts, i couldn't stop laughing!! just for the fact that people on here had complained about the "long walk" to reception from their coach! it in fact was just a short walk which understandable was ok because it was all blocked off for security reasons. Got to reception, we were greeted by friendly staff who were very chatty and directed us the way to our room. We didn't have any problems with our room at all, we felt it was very clean and well maintained. The Pool area was really lovely and spacious. The Gardens all around the apts were stunning to look at!
The bungalows may have been a far distance from places but you can't complain that 3euros to Maspalomas or Playa Del Ingles is not worth it. We recommend popping to these! esp Maspalomas!
The bungalows are situated in a residentual area, so the Spanish do come and stay at weekends and enjoy the sun around the pool just like we did. I didn't have or see any problems with this. Plenty room for everyone. We ALL need a holiday!
The food was lovely, a variety of everything from fish to salad to chips to spagetti Bol and plenty more treats. They catered for everyone. This goes for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. And also Snack time with the delicious Hot Dogs and more! The resturant was lovely at night over looking the pools and enertainment stand.
Drinks were super, fantastic when being All Inclusive.
Lots of entertainmet during the day for the kiddies and also adults can join in!
Overall we had a lovely stay - we didn't come across any problems. i hope you enjoy your stay if you have booked to go. Please don't be put off by any of the other comments, i really don't understand where they were coming from.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

Sonemar: Ria by Ria |

My family and myself have just returned from the Sonemar Apartments and would like to warn other people what to expect.... where do I start? I wish that I had read the reviews of the other people that had been.
When i arrived i was so upset.
We had to walk with our suitcases to the reception down a long enterance because the bus could not fit down there, we entered the reception which was not only dirty but looked like that it had not been painted for a very long time and was greeted by a very unhelpful receptionist who basially grunted and pointed to the door and shoved a map of the appartments in my husbands hand, the place was dead ( we later found out that entertainment is not provided on the monday due to arrivals and check outs ) opened our apartment door and was horrified, the sink, floor, bed linen, bathroom lounge area were filthy to the point that i wouldent let my husband unpack anything until i had swept up! We decided to leave the room and have a look about during this I have to say that the gardens at the Sonemar are very well maintained and do look nice, we went up to the resturant were we actually managed to get served after standing there for 15 minutes as there was no bar staff around we got talking to two other families who were as dissapointed as we were with the state of the rooms and the service that they had received.
my husband persuaded me to give it the night to see what happens...
in order not to bore you to much briefly the next two weeks did not improve,
The food was always cold always in some orange sauce floating in grease as I do not eat red meat i lived on salads and pasta over the two weeks ( and lost 5lbs in weight I normally put weight on) we also eat out most of the time because the food was so bad, we did complain but it got us no-where! The entertainment was ok thank god for Kirk(entertainment team)who was a breath of fresh air! The apartments are not cleaned on a regular basis we had our sheets changed once in the two weeks and that was after complaining.
If you have children with you take plenty of money just because the holiday is all inclusive it does not mean that all the childrens activities are free we learnt the hard way!!!!
The pools are nice during the week come weekends you are invaded by the spanish who are not only rude but bring pets with them so watch were you walk!!
If you decide to go to the Sonemar I hope that you have a better time than us and the many families who we got talking to during the course of the last two weeks.

Sonemar: Sonemar exposed by Janet Davies 6 |

Having returned from Sonemar bungalows on monday of this week 10/2/03 we would like to give a recent update on the accomodation.
The location was appalling, we were told when booking we would be 10 mins from the beach, nobody said this really meant 15 mins by taxi. The apartments were dirty and dangerous especially if you had children with you.
On arrival there was a dead cockroach in one of our eating area cupboards which was still there when we left, The food was never hot. There was also no lounge area to sit and read your daily papers or just relax, everywhere was closed off after breakfast time leaving only the pool area to relax in if you didn't fancy another taxi journey to the beach. The holiday company reps were uninterested unless you were going on their trips.
However you could not fault the childrens entertainment this was excellent, well done to the Cool Bananas team.
