| Sorrento Review: Sorrento | | Written by Jane Dixon on 02 Nov 2005 about a trip in Aug 2005.
| First visited Sorrento in October 1997 when we stayed at the Hermitage Hotel. The hotel itself was fine, but the location wasn't so good. It was a good 15 minute bus ride from the centre of Sorrento, up a steep hill. This put paid to our normal after dinner 'passeggiato' because it just wasn't safe to do so.
I have just returned from two weeks at the Hotel Admiral in the Marina Grande area of the town, arriving back in the UK on 7 October. The weather was great for the first week, but was a bit hit and miss for the second. It rained most days but, fortunately, not all day. The location of the Hotel Admiral is perfect, built at the bottom of the cliffs on which the Bel Air and Bristol hotels are built. It is about 1km from the shops, bars and restaurants of Sorrento. Although uphill, it is easily reached on foot in about 15-20 minutes, or there is a bus that runs hourly from the Tabacchi. The food, service and location were excellent and could not be faulted. |
