St George Gardens: St. George Hotel is the best! by Jeff Temple |

Just had our first stay in Cyprus having for the last 6-7 years taken our holidays in Canarian resorts. We were very impressed with Cyprus overall and especially the St. George Hotel. Having stayed in a Thomson Platinum hotel in Fuerteventura we knew what standard to expect and were not dissapointed. The welcome at the airport from the reps was fine, bus journey hot but short enough so as not to cause concern, and the porterage at the hotel was excellent.
On arrival in the reception we welcomed the air conditioning - as we did for the whole 2 weeks!! - and filled in the usual forms along with a glass of orange juice from the waitress.
We did have a problem with our "sea view" room (we hadn't one although we paid for it) and quckly got this changed. As other correspondents have written, fruit, wine, slippers and bathrobes await in your room which is very welcome and also water in the fridge.
Brekfast had everything you could wish for although the coffee was sometimes warm instead of piping - just grab a fresh pot when they arrive.
Evening meals were also excellent and well organised with lots of variety. If people complain about the food here then they must be the never pleased type!
Loads of sunbeds and space at the pool or anywhere else on the grounds. We chose ours above the small beach to try and catch the cool breeze off the sea but I must say it was very calm when we stayed.
Loads to do during the day at the hotel with an excellent animation team from Slovakia and other areas e.g Poland etc.
The bowls was brilliant fun with up to 25 playing somedays!
The same team did a good job of organising the evening entertainment - especially "Mishka" with her Bingo game. Brilliant!!
About 10 weddings when we were there in the Chapel St. George and it must have been very hot for the poor bride and groom but they were all smiling!
Car hire was booked on the internet for 4 days and it was not a problem. So much to see so we'll have to come back again to explore more of this place. Although it was very hot and humid, up in the mountains was nice and refreshing with a far dryer air and pleasant for walking along the many nature trails.
Good rep service if you needed it, staff very friendly and we even got hugs and kisses when we left with the more familiar ones!
