Strand Palace: Could do better by Elizabeth Hunter |

We chose the Strand Palace for its proximity to Theatreland.
First impressions: Lots of people hanging around. Although check in time was from 2.00 pm we were told that on trying to check in at 2.20pm the room would not be available for another hour (I was due at the theatre at 3.00). Luckily a friend looked after my baggage until after the show, when I was able to check in at approx 6.00 pm.
Room: Clean and tidy, nice bathroom. View: into an internal courtyard.
Service in bar in evening: very slow. Nice bar area to relax in, though.
Breakfast: Large queue to get into breakfast room. Head waiter very abrupt, and when we did get seated asked us to hurry up with our meal as there were other people waiting!
Value for money: OK for a large central London hotel. Chosen for its location, and may stay there again for same reason, but certainly not for a holiday.

Strand Palace: Awful service by Xiomara Carrillo |

My reservation through DIY travel was for a Double room. The receptionist at the Strand gave us a twin room. Once in the room, we notice that it was a twin room, so I went back to reception to show her the reservation confirmation where clearly said double room.
She said that the agent (DIYtravel) made a mistake and book the room as a twin, so the hotel was not to be hold responsible. I demanded to see the manager, and very insolent way she told me that if I wanted to see the manager I wil need to wait until she had the time to go to look for her.
After ten minutes, the manager came (not because she was called, but because she was passing by). She apologized and gave me a double room.
Very upseting situation where you do not know who to believe.

Strand Palace: Great for the theatre by Doug Blomfield |

A great place to base yourself for a theatre visit.
Covent Garden is 5 minute walk away, the river is 5 minutes in the other direction.
The room was great value, clean and comfortable
Definitely will use again
