Sun Island Resort and Spa: Quiet Paradise by Brian & Paulette Ingham |

After a long and weary flight we boarded the sea plane and arrived at Sun Island where we were greeted with hot towels and a welcoming drink. after checking in we were taken to our room 636 at first sight great until I opened the patio door to find that the room was actually set back from the sea and to get to the beach you had to cross barren scrubland with no tree or umbrella shade on the shore line when you got there, not exactly suitable for a fair skinned Scot. A phone call to reception and after speaking to the rep we finally changed rooms the following morning to 171, FANTASTIC, just step out of your door across palm shaded, daily swept beach to your designated sunbeds and the Indian Ocean.
This is what we came for. The rooms were very clean and kept that way by our wonderful room boy Josef. Theres an outside private shower, brilliant to rinse off in after snorkelling or swimming in the warm blue waters, the snorkelling is better on the other side of the island by the thai restaurant.
Food was varied and tasty in the main restaurant but if you want to eat in the other a la carte places you have to pay extra even when on AI also if you take tea/coffee in your room or anything from the mini bar you will also be charged.
This just seemed crazy to us, you also had to wear one of these stupid wristbands you're on an island and you have to sign for everything anyway so whay is the point in this.
Nightlife at the main bar was laid back a few good bands, crab racing, local dancers etc. Fantastic service from the waiters, a few tips go a long way.
We did the Island tour, the only brits on a boat full of russians was very interesting. Sunset fishing a free trip was great, especially as I caught a red snapper which was grilled later for me to eat. Feeding the manta rays happens every night about 9.30 from the supply jetty a great experience they also feed the reef sharks at the Thai restaurant. All in all a very laid back holiday full of honeymooners or anniversary celebrators like us.
