Sun Tropical: a long long walk by Largeloins |
| Posted 10 October 2005 about a visit in April 2005 | Overall rating: 4.0 |
Went all inclusive
Main resturant Food; OK but repetative.
Themed resturants; poor for food and service and to be avoided
Main pool; freezing and salt water
Other pools; salt water and not heated
Exclusively First Choise Holiday Village
Apartements; very nice and clean on two stories.
Day time "Snacks" only available from the Pool bar and great if you want a toasted sandwich because that's all they could make on a cruddy looking sandwhich toaster. We never bothered as the hygiene was a big concern. The all inclusive sundires was limited to very cheap ice creams, Cheetos etc. If you wanted crisps from the bar you had to buy them!!
The resort suffers from being very windy, that's why the accomodationn blocks are "u" shaped to reduce the wind effect. It seemed to me that the complex was once twice the size as there is a concrete slab wall (we called it the Belin wall) dividing it in half. The complex other side of the wall was virtually a mirror image of our complex but occupied exclusively by Germans.
The walk to the centre Playa Blanca is more like 35 to 40 minutes. A nice place with good beach, resurants and lots of shops, including a couple of big supermakets. There is a free bus ffom outside the German complex but it only drops you off near the beach, a 15 minute walk from the centre of town.
Summary
Nice to look at (Modern glass and chrome), food poor, pool poor, maids very good, reps OK, general service including bar staff poor.

Sun Tropical: Really good place to stay.......but by Sharonb |
| Posted 20 June 2005 about a visit in October 2004 | Overall rating: 7.3 |
We spent a week at the Sun Tropical in November 2004 and I was a little wary at first after finding out it is a 'Holiday Village' and we dont have any children. However, the complex is huge and there is plenty of space (we went in low season) and although there is plenty of onsite entertainment for both Adults and Children, you're not obliged to join in if you just want a quiet break away.
We had a fantastic week there and I would definately go back!
There are numerous pools, 1 large with Pool Bar and 6 smaller ones which are situated between apartment blocks. The larger pool is cold!!!! but I heard the smaller ones are heated, although I didn't try them.
The Sun Tropical is quite newly built and although the rooms do now show the expected signs of wear and tear, we found our room was in excellent condition and both clean and tidy. The cleaner made 'Swans' out of our towels which was cute.
We had a lovely balcony overlooking one of the smaller pools and found spare pillows and a blanket in the large wardrobe incase needed.
Hot water we found was only luke warm during 'busy' periods of the mornings and evenings but otherwise nice and hot.
We were Self Catering and the complex has a disco/bar/entertainment venue and some on-site restaurants but as we'd heard bad reviews of the food at the Sun Tropical, we decided not to try them.
There is also an onsite supermarket but it is very expensive compared to those off site although convienient for arrival guests and urgent bits.
The staff and Reps were all very friendly and helpful. We didnt like the ground floor room we were allocated on arrival as we prefer upper floor balcony rooms, and the receptionist swapped our room immediately for us - no questions asked!
I have heard many people complain that this complex is gated around the perimeter but I dont actually see this as a bad thing. It provides security and peace of mind and there are numerous exit gates open from 9am - 6pm. After this time, you do have to walk all the way around the outside of the complex on your way into town and it IS a longer walk and is unlit, however, the night before we left we found out that for a small deposit you can ask Reception for a security pass which swipes you in and out of the side gate at night and halves the long walk!
If you still dont like the idea though, then a taxi from Reception to Playa Blanca's town centre is only 2.5 Euros and they come very quickly and are easy to find when you want to get back later.
We travelled with First Choice and would highly recommend the 'Tour of Lanzarote' day trip!

Sun Tropical: self catering good, all inclusive bad by Dermot O'Gorman |
| Posted 23 September 2004 about a visit in July 2004 | Overall rating: 7.0 |
The Sun Tropical are brand new and are finished to an extremely high standard. The rooms are cleaned every day except Sunday and towels and sheets are changed 3 times a week. The complex itself consists of 8 blocks of apts, two stories high, 5 swimming pools, 3 restaurants and 3 bars as well as the Dome.
The restaurants are not great and don't eat anything more than a snack or breakfast there. The Dome (or Doom as I heard some all inclusive guests refer to it as) should be avoided at all costs. The AI guests can only get their free drink there at night and it seems as if the bar staff slow every thing down to reduce the amount those guests can drink, hence it can take 20 mins to get served. The downstairs bar (Village Inn ?) is a bit bland but I suppose that's because it's new. The bar at reception is nice albeit very quiet at night.
The staff at the Sun Tropical are among the best I've ever seen, all extremely friendly, courteous and efficient. If you have any problem in the apts (we had two minor ones) someone will call within 2 or 3 minutes. The complex is very large and it seems as if there are 4 or 5 groundsmen constantly cleaning, emptying bins and picking up rubbish. The standard of cleanliness is excellent.
The town itself is beautiful and the restaurants are first class. For something snacky during the day try Brenda's which is just across the road from the Church and for evening meals try just about anywhere. I must mention Las Hervidores which is just off the main street just behind the Jasmine Chinese restaurant (which is excellent). Las Herv. is where a lot of the locals and tourists who come back year after year eat. We were tipped off about it by a friend who moved out there two years ago. I would definitely return to the Sun Tropical though would never go all inclusive, heard too many complaints. (Co Clare)

Sun Tropical: Sun Tropical Apartments by Julie Wilson |
| Posted 25 January 2004 | Overall rating: 9.5 |
Went to Sun Tropical Apartments in Sept 2003. This is a really nice complex and everything within the complex was spotless clean. The apartments are nicely furnished and are well equiped.
Really nice pools within the various blocks and the larger main pool is also lovely. There was plenty of activities throughout the day to keep the kids buzy with clubs for all ages of children, right up to the teenagers. Nightly entertainment for all the family, (plus the Bingo, which my kids just loved).
Staff are all very helpfull and the whole place is 'family friendly'.
Quite a walk into Playa Blanca (about 20 to 25mins), but a lovely resort with a nice beach, shops and plenty places to eat.
Would definately recommend Sun Tropical to anyone considering a holiday in Playa Blanca.
