Sunflower: Sunflower Hotel by Den49 |
| Posted 02 September 2003 | Overall rating: 9.5 |
Have just returned from a two-week stay at the 3* Sunflower (31st July - 14th August). It is the smaller sister hotel to the Santana 4* (see my posting May 2003)
The hotel is in a residential area away from the noise and bustle of the main sea-front but within easy walking distance. (My husband walks with the aid of a stick and experienced no problems.) It has only been open since April this year and we really enjoyed our stay. It is fully deserving of it's 3*star rating.
Staff were very friendly and helpful,
food was excellent,
roof-top swimming pool and swim-up bar small but adequate with a very small children's paddling pool, poolside cafe very good serving snacks, salads, drinks etc.,
indoor pool and 'wellness' suite excellent,
lovely lounge and bar (internet access) : entertainment low-key but ideal for a relaxing evening or when you come back late from the 'square' (Bugibba sea front)! Ask Albert for one of his delicious hot chocolate with baileys...mmmm!!
Beautiful garden restaurant 'Ta Cassa' (open daily and evenings) and adjoining nightclub (which is open 3 nights a week) across the road. Noise disturbance minimal depending on your tolerance!!
Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the decor throughout was first class, in the traditional Maltese style.
The only negative point is the fact that there was no air-conditioning in the bedrooms. As we were there in the middle of a heat-wave (42C+ daytime dropping to about 30C at night!!) this proved to be most uncomfortable especially at night. The large ceiling fan didn't seem to improve things much.
There were ramps and facilities for disabled access but as the roads and pavements were not in a state of repair you would find at home this might cause difficulties for the wheel-chair bound. (we got talking to a lady from Scotland who, although she liked the hotel, found it hard work pushing her 42 year old son around the surrounding streets)
Also the pool and surrounding terraces are more suited to rest and relaxation for adults rather than non-stop fun for children so this is an ideal hotel for couples and parties without very young children.
We would highly reccommend this hotel, and will be going back but perhaps at a cooler time of year if there are no plans to install air-conditioning in the rooms!
Hope this is helpful!
