Just got back from a fortnight here! Went with two friends. As soon as they said D wing i felt bad after what i had read and was right to!
Our room was on ground floor which had a garden with a fence seperating it from the main road, and you got the descusting smell from the bins of the resturant over the fence.
Our bathroom door knob fell off the first night and when the cooker was turned on it blew the electrics! Ants were everywhere in the apartment in the bed. The kitchen and beds in same room so if there is more than two of you it can get quite tense between everyone and the 3rd and 4th persons bed isnt made up you do that yourself. The maid also forgets to set the room for the right amount of people she also wont come back later to do your room she just says no and comes in any way!
The patio door is very unsafe id advise you to put table against it on the right, stops anyone sliding it open if they tryed to get in. As people did get broken into when we were there.
Reps entertainment is very poor even the quiz questions are the same both weeks!
There were plenty of sunbeds but prob because of time of year, didnt stop there from being loads of kids though.
If you eat out i would highly recommend the resurant round the corner to the right when you come out of the sunwing the bloke on the corner will give you a leaflet that gets you 10% off not that you need it cause its so cheap!
The jeep safari is brill book at harrys bar its 25euros rather than 40 with the reps and you get the experience of mr T you will see what i mean.

My family stayed at Sunwing for the last week of August. We had never been to Gran Canaria before but had stayed self catering in Cyprus and Spain. On first impressions the apartments seemed nice but the first night in block E felt like we were on the set of Tenko. O.K you have to expect hot weather at that time of year but the fact that the bedroom had a window measuring approx.7 feet in length and 1 foot in height meant that very little air circulated. The very first night there we opened all the windows and doors to let as much cool air in as possible but in doing so attracted the biggest coachroach we had ever seen. It landed on my Son who swatted it off and to our surprise it flew (we didnt know they could do that) up to the ceiling. Although the apartment was clean and not infested by these creatures we found that there were loads of the little beasties waiting to join us inside if we let our guard down. If you stop here remember to keep your lights off if your windows are open! As said the lack of air conditioning is a big problem in the apartments so if possible hire fans. The other problem encountered was 15 year old kids! E block is right by the pool area, bar and reception. O.K they are on holiday too but do they really need to stand about shouting and screaming until 2 - 3 in the morning. Where were their parents! We did complain to reception but they did not seem to be too bothered about this. We had read that there is security on site and even saw a guard on the first night but I think that he is more there as security for reception staff than anything else. We did hire a safety deposit box as an earlier review recomended this and we were glad we did as we heard that a number of thefts had gone on of money and mobile phones albeit these were from the said 15 year olds and so its debatable who was stealing from whom. Enough said, hope you have a better experience than us.

You'll find that some people writing a review spend a bit of time hunting for reps and just plan winging! .. Now iv stayed in diffrent areas of the island and i stayed in sunwing in 2002 & 2003 for 3weeks at a time in september.
Now im 22 and like the nightlife but also dont want to be surrounded by teenages unable to handle there first drink, i Found the location really good as you only min's away from the bars-Nice restraunts,Once you know where your going it will be fine.
The resort itself was very good,well placed appartments very big nice pool,I Would have to say the only Downside which isnt a massive one but yes aircon would be good to have and seems to let the place of this standard down,But theres a good lunchtime bar on site and mini market with a spar round the corner, A word of advise to everyone,if changing your pounds get them changed in a bar (ask the manager)You will get a lot better rate.
Id say for the place a good 8/10 iv kicked two off cause of the air-con,Anyway im flying to Mexico in two hrs so happy Xmas people and check sunwing out its really good compared to other appartment in playa !
P.s The 2* is not really realistic on this its more like a 3* easy .

I would rate the sunwing "good" and i will explain why.
Our apartments were lovely inside and the cleaners were very thorough. In my opinion, the room was big enough for myself and my boyfriend, but perhaps not a family of four.
However, we stayed in room number f102, which was located down some stairs that were on pool level. Because of this we didnt have a balcony as such,and it also meant that the walkway did have a few cockroaches there. However we did go the first week of september so this might have been why, but there was none in our apartments.
The pool was lovely and there was plenty of sunbeds. On the first day i put the towels down around 8.45 ish. We then went to the pool only to find our towels werent there and as it was our first day we were not aware that you had to wait till 9 to put towels down, SO YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!. I found my towel in a lost property bin. but we never seen my boyfriends till 3 days later!.
The reception staff are really nice which is a lot more that what i can say about the airtours reps, they were very ignorant and didnt seem to really be bothered if you had a problem.
The location is very quiet, but we got taxis to all the centres and they only cost around 2-3 euros.
The major negative point about his place is that there was no air conditioning and when we went it was so hot!!!!!!! and all the fans had been taken!!!, so if they did have that id go back, but id try to aviod the F block!!!!!!!

We were thee in Sept02 for 2 weeks.
Nice apartments and grounds well maintained.
Reception staff very helpful as was the on-site reps.
Lovely Pool area and organised events throughout day, mixed entertainment in the evening though hard to appreciate given number of intoxicated youngsters.
However the easy supply of alcohol to children was concerning. Bar staff openly serving children.
Would never want to return to Gran Canaria
