TOP Calella Palace: a very good, cheap late deal getaway by Cheryl Robinson |
| Posted 30 July 2008 about a visit in June 2008 | Overall rating: 8.7 |
Despite reading mixed reviews we, as a family were pleased with the overall holiday, good points were for the price we paid (£850 for family of five including flights for one week, all inclusive) we had a great holiday, the kids loved the pools and park during the day and the ability to wander around the hotel premises, safely at night. The rooms were clean and had enough space for all of us, the staff were very helpful and polite and the hotel was in close proximity to the beach and shopping areas. The downsides were the food became a little bit mundane after a few days as the same was served more or less each night, the drinks allocated on all inclusive basis were 2 drinks per person each time at the bar which is a little frustrating when you have three children to provide for. The kids club was closed throughout the holiday with only pool games available for our children. The only major problem we experienced was the lifts available, there was only three small lifts for 700+ rooms which was extremely annoying having to wait 10-15 mins for a lift, and the lifts are tiny, which caused problems for us having a twin buggy!!!! These were the only problems we encountered and on the whole is still did not spoil our holiday. For families after a good value holiday with young children, this is a good hotel to opt for.

TOP Calella Palace: good value for money, clean, good food and entertainment by Debbie Hughes |
| Posted 18 June 2006 about a visit in August 2003 | Overall rating: 8.0 |
stayed at the Ossiris all inclusive with husband and two daughters, had two twin rooms each with 3 beds in each, and balcolnys overlooking the pool. The rooms were cleaned every day and towells changed, by helpful and friendly staff. Elevators were clean and there was an external glass elevator. Corridors were clean but a little bit tired. No air conditioning in rooms can be a problem if it is very hot.
Our first rooms were at the back of the hotel on the 1st floor over the kitchens and rubbish bins, which was a bit smelly when sitting on the balcolny, so we went to reception and asked to be moved, staff were very helpful the next morning we were given the keys to two more rooms at the front on the 5th floor.
Good bar and patio area to sit outside in the evening, bar could be a bit smokey. when we were there it was full of welsh, heavy drinkers and smokers. You should expect to queue for a while at the bar, as the hotel is usually busy and a free bar is always crowded. Any one wanting a quiet holiday should not go to a free drinks hotel as people do tend to get a bit noisy and overindulge.
There is a roof bar open to over 18s only with sun beds and there is a jacuzzi up there.
Tea coffee and hot chocolate are freely available all day. A snack bar is open in the childrens restaurant, when the main restaurant is not, this served plainer food such as chips and childrens favourites - burgers nuggets etc.
Evening entertainment was good with a disco for the children early on and then either a disco, flamenco show or brazilian night- usual hotel shows.
Dining room was clean and food good, plenty of choice of meals large range of meat and fish everynight including salads and pasta every day, fruit bread rolls soup, several meats and fish. Food clearly named in spanish and english. one night the chefs were carving legs of lamb in the restaurant and served a barrel of madeira wine. worst was the greedy fat english men who wanted to go into the dining room in shorts and vests leaning over you with sweaty arm pits to pile their plates high with everything they could get hold of!
watch out for the peaches and oranges they go off quickly and are not always taken out of the baskets.
Packed lunches comprising of a roll butter, pate, jam, apple pear and bottle of water are available from the dining room if you book the day before.
Folders in reception are full of daytrips, and visits you can book. Reception also change travellers cheques.
noise from the bar stopped at midnight but some of the younger guests would stay in the pool area singing and shouting much later. some inconsiderate guests will always shout and slam doors in th middle of the night.
The pool was not a bad size and the patio and pool area was hosed and cleaned every evening and the sunbeds were washed every morning, There was not a lot of space around the pool to sit and it was not always possible to find a sun bed as many people put towells on beds to reserve them then went out.
The town was within walking distance of shops and beach down the hill but if you are elderly remember you have to walk back up it again. There was an underpass for the busy road and railway line . We had an excelent holiday here and would probably return (not in the schoool hols) although we like to try different resorts.

TOP Calella Palace: cheap but not cheerful by Hazel |
| Posted 18 October 2005 about a visit in September 2005 | Overall rating: 4.8 |
we stayed here on a recommendation by family, what a disappointment!
without going into too much detail please don't spend a lot of money to go to this hotel. If you get it at a really really REALLY good price then ok!
The location is fine as everything is within walking distance, but oh my goodness....... the rooms? the food? the staff? desperate, disgusting, disgruntled. this is definitely NOT one to be repeated.
We travelled with Globespan and not a reputable tour operator so no recourse or rep to complain to.
the lesson we learned from this ??? If you pay peanuts...... you get monkeys

TOP Calella Palace: What a Khazi by BigpaulH |
| Posted 14 September 2005 about a visit in April 2005 | Overall rating: 1.0 |
We stayed at the Osiris and thought it was a hole.
Food disgusting, unless you like filth and flies and the beer and drinks in plastic cups, rooms were based from the days of tv prog- Upstairs Downstairs.
Fights every night with the idiot Manchester mongrels aginst the Liverpools, Leeds you name them they were fighting- including women and kids. Its a typically northern night out with everyone on a bender till they drop. Power drinkers and parents letting their kids of 14 and 15 getting legless. Dont think you will sleep at night, cos you wont as the drunks make so much noise- its a disgrace. Queing up at 10am to get drunk every morning and by lunch time it was kicking off.
Pool was the size of my bath at home well the pool was a wee bit bigger. Entertainment was for the mentally insane. From the ouside it looked nice but the inside was like a scene from Basra. Police were called in at least 6 times a day because of the idiots fighting. No good this hotel for kids as its a hell hole.
To sum up this hotel is easy. You have to have an ASBO to stay in this hotel as its that kind of scum that stay there. Ive never seen so many fights since I watched the film sparticus. The hotel should be renamed The SCUMORIS.
If you like this place the next holiday you should have is to Iraq as its very similar.

TOP Calella Palace: noisy osiris by Kenneth Moore |
| Posted 21 September 2002 | |
The class of person staying in this hotel ruined our holiday, loud mouthed, tatoo laden smokers, who could not be quiet if their lives depended on it. The hotel lifts were very slow & most of the time it was quicker to walk. The heavy smokers & no extraction fans meant leaving the adults only bar most nights after just a couple of drinks, & be prepared to queue for all drinks & food, including the snack bar. No sleep at night was the norm, with loud drunken shouting, slamming doors & televisions on untill all hours. The food was adequate if rather repetitive, the desserts were the same every meal time which got rather boring. Give this one a miss.

TOP Calella Palace: Nice but noisy by Colin Etherington |
| Posted 25 February 2002 | Overall rating: 8.0 |
Nicely presented AI hotel out of the way of the nightlife. Staff friendly enough, given the people they have to put up with. Rooftop terrace is excellent and adults-only bar avoids the queues. The morning Grand National to book seats round the pool is priceless when viewed from above
Downside: noisy at night, with long echoing corridors and loud, incosiderate families with snivelling children; snack bar cold chips and leftovers; queues at bars and only one drink per card; too many boozy, loud people - working men's club by the Med!

TOP Calella Palace: how busy is this hotel |
| 25 Aug 2006 by angela Casey |
hoping to go to this hotel in may and would love to know what its like from it got refurbished? >> Answer this question | | | | >> | Answer 1 by J Arn (26 Aug)
Looking at other review sites. The Calella Palace will not be ready untill later this year. As your not going untill may 2007. You should not have any problems. We have been here many times, before refurbishment. Yes it can be noisy, but its a large family hotel, with roof top space for adults only. Overall you should have a great time. You may be able to use all the TOP hotels in may. free bus.

Stayed a Xmas/New Year 2006. Air Con was good, food poor, drinks poor,
No Snack Bar - Adult Pool downstairs good, Didn't go upstairs too cold.
I wouldn't reccomend it as it seems worse now than when it was the Osiris and I think if possible try to book somewhere else and yes it is very noisy with people who take advantage of the free drinks being thrown out by security.
