I booked the Taj Garden because of its proximity to the airport, and because I had been there on a previous trip to spend a few hours waiting for a late flight; on that occasion, even though I had no room booked, they treated me with the greatest kindness and courtesy, and made all the facilities available to me and my son
On this occasion I booked a room; the value was excellent - I spent the evening between the bar, watching cricket, and the side of the lagoon watching the sun set. The room was on the small size, but adequate and clean and had a television with a wide range of international chanels, one of the best I have come across in Sri Lanka.
I ordered dinner via room service as I was on my own, and had a very pleasant meal of local food cooked to Western tastes at a very reasonable price.
The other facilities I used were the internet room, which was expensive by local standards, and the shop where I bought some last minute presents at reasonable prices, considering that it was a hotel shop; I also browsed through the extremely interesting second-hand book collection and bought a facsimile of an 1834 book of Ceylon Fishes with a 20 or so high quality colour plates for around Rs/- 2,000, slightly less than a tenner
Altogether a most satisfactory experience that I shall be happy to repeat on my next trip, especially as the hotel is no more that 10 minutes from Bandaranaike International Airport
