A lot closer to heaven than hell but a few disappointments. If you want sun, beach and pool by day with undisturbed sleep at night, the Taurito Princess is worth considering (but avoid a first floor room directly above the evening entertainment). Whilst there is a beach right next to the hotel, it is not the cleanest but there is a much better one a short bus ride away. Whilst most areas are kept clean, the maintenance of some equipment could be better in a relatively expensive 4* hotel. We arrived to find a towel rail off the wall and it took over an hour for the bath water to drain away. They failed to clear the drain properly over our two week stay despite making us stay out of the bathroom completely for 22 hours while they tried acid with toxic fumes! With no window in bathroom or toilet, could have done with an extractor fan, as would have been required in UK. The lifts were not as reliable as they needed to be for the size of hotel but not actually dangerous.
In the dining room, good food was frequently spoiled by failure to serve at right temperature and we often wished the vegetables in the evening could be as warm as the fruit juice in the morning! The room itself could get a bit too hot if seated near the serving area. Most staff were friendly and helpful.
The long, narrow shape of the evening entertainment room means only a few people can get tables with a good view of the stage area and the atmosphere was too hot, smoky and stuffy for our taste. We didn’t see enough to comment on the shows.
The hotel courtesy bus is a very nice coach that can take you to the busy shopping centre in Puerto Rico or more attractive harbour and shops in Mogan.
Clearly another hotel is being built next door where the rock has been cut out but they were not working on it during our stay. The water amusement park opposite is being developed further but the work noise was not enough to be a disturbance. Most irritating noise came from some entertainment boat a few hundred metres from the beach as a man with a microphone liked the sound of his own voice far too much.
With Thomson we had a useful facility for return airport check-in at the hotel. All great but one of our cases didn’t show up at Gatwick!
TIPS: Avoid the phone cards from Foto Taurito next door to the hotel as you only get 18 minutes (and we only got 15) for 12 Euros. The Mundophone card on sale in Mogan gives 71 mins for only 5 Euros! The Spar supermarket in Mogan is cheaper than the one in Taurito. The free Blanket Trip is basically a sales promotion for a Birmingham based bedding company and a shoe shop. If you get travel sick, take medication before “Spirit of the Sea” to see dolphins etc.
