I visitied the Theofano for a 'Winter' break in 2006. It was just before Easter and the weather in the UK was very bitter, cold and wet. Cyprus was a little colder than usual however we had only two days rain and the rest was mostly sunny mornings and mainly overcast in the afternoons. Although in saying that when the sun came out it was around 22 - 25 Degrees and we all got a nice tan.

I had read the reviews about the hotel and was assured that I was in the new wing of the hotel. I had requested a room on the top floor away from lifts and fire doors as I am a light sleeper. I had booked two rooms and requested that the children were next to my wife and I. We were given rooms on teh top floor of the main building however, we were 4 doors away from the children. Their room was next to a fire door and you could hear the pool generator going all day/night under their room. Our room was away from the main lift but unfortunatley the main lift (the one from reception to all floors) has an electronic 'Ding-Dong' on it when it reaches the requested floor. This noise kept me awake during the night and the next morning I requested a move! It took them a 6 days to move me as they suggested a move me to the old quarter which I said I didn't want. One of the ladies on reception was extreemly helpful and gave me room numbers of people who were moving out and I went and looked at these rooms and chose the best ones. I had to sign a discaimer saying I wouldn't prosecute them after they moved me!?

I slept well after the move and we had a nice remaining holiday.

Rooms.
They were cleaned daily, the beds were changed twice a week and the towels changed every day. The room did smell a little damap and this appeared to come through from the shower tiling. The rooms were nice and comfortable though!
I had read that tea/coffee facilities were provided in the room with a mini bar, but this is not the case! There is a local charge for them! Go out and buy (or take) a kettle as the local charge is £3.00 a day (£1.50 pp)! I bought one at a shop on the Posseidonos Road just passed the Tourist information place called 'PoP something or other' for £3.50 and passed it onto someone else who came out he next week when we left. Also, Hire the safe key (£7 p/wk) as there were several burglaries whilst we were there, one family who travelled on our flight were broken into the very first night and had their camara and jewelry stolen. Keep all valuables locked away or on you! Check you balcony door locks as I had to report faults on all of ours.

Service:
The staff are very pleasant and were most helpful to us.

Dining/Food.
As stated elsewhere, breakfast is in the old quarter by the small pool it is shady and nice on sunny mornings when you can have a coffee by the pool in the sunshine. Breakfast was good with fruit, toast and cooked food on offer! The Gratefruits were particularlylovelly! The evening meals were held in the main resturant. Each day the meals were themed and these went from Mediteranian to Mexican and from Greek to Italian, all were good quality but rather bland. There was plenty of salad each day with 4 offerings for main meal, these would normally include Lamb, Chicken, Pork plus. Deserts were Ice cream, cakes, fruit, and two stable offerings - Jelly and Fresh Caramel. My fussy children enjoyed their food there which was a blessing.
The Hotel tap water is very drinkable. But you have to purchase bottled water to drink at the table each night if you want it - £1.30 per Litre.

Facilities.
The main outdoor pool is not heated and was too cold to swim in for the first 10 days so I used the indoor pool. However, this pool is a Mineral Salt Spa Pool and is not for swimming. We were told several times by the Russian health technician that we were not to splash and we were to only to stay in for 20 minutes!! I asked to use the Jacuzzi once and was told there was a £3.00 charge for each person in the pool!? so with 4 in there I scrapped that idea. The changing rooms downstairs had no doors on it and anyone standing in the corridoor outside looking in to see what the pool is like can see you getting changed or showering!
The Russian Masseur is great and his kneck, back and shoulders massage is fantastic - cost £15.00 took 40 minutes (normally 30 minutes).
The gymn area is small but OK and we used it every other day or so. There isn't an instructor there so be careful. There could do with a running machine although running around the area wor along the front is a happier experience.
Go out and buy a cheap set of Table Tenis bats (£4.50 in local supermarket) as it is £2.00 per hour to hire them. There is only one TT table on site. If you have Darts take them as well as teh ones on reception are rubbish, and take your own billiard/pool chalk too as they don't supply it!

Location.
About 1.5KM from Kato Paphos, it is a nice walk from the town and it takes 20 minutes. You can go along the Posseidonos Road or along the sea front but they are doing a lot of work along the front at the moment paving a bigger section of Path to make a better promanade. Watch for the crazy paving I tripped up a couple of times and jarred my back! The Triangle by the hotel has everything you could want from food to hair salon's and a good afternoon out is to go to the Mini Golf it is the best one I have ever seen and was great fun!
The local municipal beach isn't much fun but maybe this would change in the summer season. The coastline is rocky and to the left of the municipal beach there is a nice group of roacks that form a selection of rockpools at low tide. Be careful though as the rocks are very sharp.

All-in-all, it was a nice break, a time to get away and see Pahpos and to enjoy some much needed sunshine.

I have stayed at the Theofano Hotel twice, it's o.k but there are far better hotels in paphos for the same price.

There is an old part and a new part to the hotel, if the old part hasnt been refurbished i would hate to see what it looks like now cos it was in dire need of refurbishment in 2001.

However the staff are very friendly and the main pool area is lovely, there is another older pool at the back of the hotel which is quieter but it doesnt get as much sun.

The food at the hotel was o.k. it's definately better to go on a b&b basis as there are a few really good resturants just over the road from the hotel (the rimini, sunbow and rendevous) all were really reasonably priced.

Warning!!! if you are on a night flight and unable to keep you room on, the hotel lets you use the showers in the gym to wash and change, by the time we got to them they were so disgusting i didnt bother and used wet wipes instead, the smell had me gagging - so if you have to use them get there early.

As for entertaiment, the first year it was really good, cypriot dancing, karaoke, quiz nights, bingo, disco and the entertainment lady got everyone involved, the next year it was a man and lady with a keyboard singing the same selection of 70s love songs every night, very depressing - usually just downed drink as fast as we could and headed out.

I have been back to paphos a few times since, the helios beach hotel apartments are brilliant, just outside paphos but there is a regular bus service and taxi's are pretty cheap and you get to watch the most amazing sunsets from your room.

I would not go back to the theofano unless it was totally refurbished and better entertainment laid on.
