We stayed at this hotel in June 2003. The room was clean with a great view of the sea. The only bad points are the bed was slightly hard and you could hear children crying in the room next door sometimes, but overall this is a great hotel. The food was really good. We only ever ate breakfast in the hotel, but it was a good buffet with everyone catered for. I had been told it would be difficult to find vegetarian food in Madeira. It's true they do eat a lot of fish, but we managed fine. The Bamboo Inn is great, as was the Indian restaurant near the Savoy, and Tropical (almost across the road and up the steps from Ocean park). The Indian restaurant near the hotel itself tryed to overcharge us by 20 euros, they knew what they were doing and the food wasn't very good either, so if you fancy a curry, it's well worth the effort walking into town. It's quite a long walk into the centre of Funchal from the hotel, about 45 minutes, which for us was great because we could eat loads throughout the holiday, but still came back weighing less than when we went out! Not so good for the less mobile, but the hotel does run a courtesy bus during the day. During June there was a firework display at the Marina every Sunday night, hundreds of people gathered for it and it was still warm enough in the evening not to ever need a jacket or jumper.
