Trip was for: Couple Holiday

| Beautiful hotel with marble floors, large foyer with sushi bar, a variety of fine restaurants e.g Thai, Sri Lankan, Chinese, Breakfast bar
Nice pool overlooking the river
Rooms clean with all the facilities of a 5* hotel (High Speed DSL Internet in the process of being extended at time of writing to all rooms along with Wireless)
Shopping Arcade and Goodies restaurant underground provide luxury items like Jewellery, nice food, travel agencies, tour operators and bookshops
The Trans Asia Hotel is one of the best I have stayed in but suffers from being in the city (for a tourist)
Excellent value for money
Colombo itself is a noisy, dirty and busy city like any other (as you will gather on your ride from the airport) and it can feel quite unnerving outside the hotel due to the number of soldiers and police, traffic and people.
As a first time tourist to Sri Lanka - hire a driver and visit Kandy, Dambulla, Sigirya (the Trans Asia has a sister hotel called the Chaaya Citadel which is also very nice but is set in fantastic jungle/river surroundings)
City location rather than hotel is reason for not visiting again but would recommend for those on business or just looking for a 1 night stay near the airport (approx 1.25 hours away due to traffic)
