Valmangude Jardim: A good base if you don't mind a small walk to the bars/beach. by Andrew Wilkinson |

We went to these apartments as an allocation on arrival package and could have no complaints.
The receptionist was very helpful and spoke very good english, and the reception area was very clean. After an hour and a half on the coach a beer was needed before we went to our rooms. Strangely the bar (and pool bar/snack bar) is actually run as a franchise, but there is a bright young English barmaid who was very helpful and would answer most of the usual questions asked by first time visitors.
We had a ground floor 1 bedroom apartment that was very spacious, and would sleep 4 adults with ease. Not one of those one bedroom apartments were you would trip over each other if there were more than 2 of you.
The apartments are about 10 minutes walk from the strip in the new town and 20 minutes from the old town. The beach was about 10 minutes away if you new the short cuts.
Unfortunately the apartments face either West or North so you get very little sun on some of the balconys which is a shame, but the (absolutely freezing) pool and surrounding area make up for that.
The snack bar has the usual food you would expect, burgers, hot dogs, chips and pizza's so you have to go out in the evening for a proper meal.
Location of the hotel is just about right you are far enough away from the strip not to be pestered by late night revellers, but not so far if you are able bodied.
Pop into Angelus bar just around the corner and enjoy a good pint at reasonable prices, and a must is the bakers about two doors up from the bar. From first thing in the morning to last thing at night there is a queue, which speaks absolute volumns for the quality of the bread, cakes etc.
Don't go if you want everything on your door step but do go if you don't mind a pleasant walk to build up an appetite or thirst for the evening.

Valmangude Jardim: Pleasantly surprised by Dorothy Hutchison 1 |

Was really pleased on arrival at this nice complex. Apartments were clean and quite large (we though we were going to a studio but this was a one bedroom apartment). Rooms are cleaned every day, clean towels three times a week. The pool area and gardens are really very well looked after. Staff all really nice and helpful. Entertainment in the bar each night - karaoke, live music etc. The only down side (and this did not really affect us at all as we are fairly fit) is the distance from the town centre, its a good 20-25 minute walk downhill which is not so bad but coming back was a bit more strenuous especially in the heat. The best eatery we found was Buddy's bar on the main square, good quality food and plenty of it, quick cheery service too. All in all a very nice relaxing week.

Valmangude Jardim: Seriously, any good for families - 2 kids aged 6 & 4 ? |

Have'nt booked Valmangude Jardim yet ! Have to go in school holidays this summer. Money fairly tight, although managed to get a good price by googling on the internet. Can anyone tell me is it really OK for children, and handy for the beach. Don't fancy dragging children around in the August heat if there are miles to walk !!!! >> Answer this question | | | | >> | Answer 1 by Andrew Wilkinson (19 Jun)
The beach is quite a trek away, probably about ten minutes for adults. The pool area is lovely and whilst the main pool is deep there is a kids pool, gardens and play area.
The best way to the beach is down the road opposite the hotel, at the junction turn right towards the old town, and then first left. It's down hill getting there so save some energy for the return journey.
