Victoria Palace: Good outside/Poor inside by Telford Scott |
| Posted 18 September 2006 about a visit in September 2006 | Overall rating: 4.9 |
Just back from a stay in the Victoria Palace the book states that this is a 5 star hotel it is not. The hotel looks good from outside but it goes to prove that first impressions mean nothing.
We arrived to be told that they had overbooked and had to wait more than 7 hours for our room to be ready. Although this hotel is only five years old the maintaince is bad with furnishings damaged and torn, tiles broken. The dining room is a total shambles, tables are packed tight together that it is sometimes hard to even walk between tables, that is if you are luckly enough to get one in the first place, and if you are really lucky you may even get one that is laid (but don't hold out much hope). You will usually have to not only get your own knife, fork, and spoon but have to wash them as well. Unfortunately after all this it is not worth the effort as the food is either cold or uneatable.
As for the staff it would be hard to get a more unhelpful bunch anywhere they must have done their training in the Bagdad Hilton. Even though it is late in the season it does not excuse this joke of a hotel. Please avoid like the plague.

Victoria Palace: Just Back July 05-Excellent by Harry Dale |

Dont really know what people want, going to a developing Holiday country you expect a few hiccups. We wer very happy with the VP yes there could be more variety in the food but certainly this year it was hot and plentiful and on several occasions very good. Some congestion, almost always at the same times. Biggest food gripe toast didnt go brown. We heard one complaint that after two weeks they were fed up with the choices at breakfast believe me there was plenty. How many do you get at home. Staff were very helpful but its a fact many dont speak English so nod politely.Same old story if you are nice to people they are usually nice back.
The interior of the hotel is very impressive, as is the exterior. On the occasion we experienced a problem with our room an alternative was found straight away and we were able to move within 30 minutes(despite the room being left like a pigsty by the previous occupant. The resort is busy developing plenty of places to eat and buy what you want, if you want. You can always escape to Nessebur by boat or bus or take a trip to the country. Some people just seem to want to spend their holiday complaining. Get a life. Thanks to all the Bulgarians we met. Go and make up your own mind dont spend weeks worrying like my wife after reading whining reviews. Fact is she didnt want to come home.

Victoria Palace: Lovely to look at but that's where it ends!!!!! by Dory |

Stunning impression when you arrive but the hotel is very much about appearance and "image" and does not deliver 5* service. The brochure picture still shows a view of the beach from the hotel but this is not what it looks like now. The "promenade" is lines of bars, stalls, side shows & fast food kiosks. The promenade is like a scooter track & when relaxing sunbathing all you hear is constant beeping. That is if you are lucky enough to get a sun bed! If not head for the beach which is owned by the hotel and be prepared to pay 6 lev a sunbed & 6 lev for a brolly.
The majority of staff are not helpful. Towels changed every 3 days and bed linen changed once in 2 weeks, have had better service when self catering! The food, well in fairness breakfast is good, evening meal very different story. Poor presentation, poor selection but salty is not the word, pickled more appropraite. Not much better when you have to eat out. Drink very cheap outwith hotel, on average 3 times more expensive in hotel.
Overall impression left by holiday of Sunny Beach unfortunately is cheap, tacky, fake and lots of people ready to take advantage! Would suit young clubbers who only go for the drink.

my sisters just got back and hated it ,herself and her husband are now off work with food poisoning , they said it was like the Dorchester when they got there but ended up being like a carry on film.Thunder storms ,leaking roofs the hotel is said to have moved 10ft since it was built and reps were saying it was going to be pulled down at the end of the season

The Victoria Palace has not been completed yet. Our holiday was cancelled for the first two weeks in July. I don't know how far behind schedule it is.
