Villas del Sol: A pleasant stay by Mauritius Bride |
| Posted 19 August 2005 about a visit in July 2005 | Overall rating: 7.5 |
Stayed for a week in August and I endorse the previous comments regarding the apartments and the resort.
It was busier around the pool as there were a lot of children, as you would expect in the school holidays, but we didn't have to reserve sunbeds too early!
Our 10 year old throughly enjoyed the pools and the evening entertainment kept the kids happy.
My only gripe is that there was no air con and it was very hot and uncomfortable to sleep at night.
The resort was very nice and I would return, although I'd like to go to a better rated hotel a bit nearer the resort centre.

Villas del Sol: VILLAS DEL SOL by Ricardo Barkez |
| Posted 15 July 2005 about a visit in June 2005 | Overall rating: 8.8 |
ACCOMMODATION
Overview - The Villas del Sol complex is situated in Siesta just outside the main resort of Santa Eulalia. The nearest beach is only a 10 minute walk away and the resort centre is around a 15 minute walk away. There are approximately 40 apartments over 2 floors with 4 pools (2 larger pools and 2 kids' pools).
Rooms - The rooms are spacious and were kept clean and tidy throughout our stay. Each room is kitted out with everything you would expect including fridge and cooker. Top floor apartments (as ours was) have a balcony and separate roof terrace which was accessed via a spiral staircase on the balcony.
Poolside - During our stay there was always plenty of space poolside and plenty of space in the pool. Although the complex is very family orientated, the poolside was generally fairly quiet and relaxed. In addition to the 4 pools there is also a nice lawned area, a small adventure playground for the kids and a volleyball court.
Food/Drink - Villas del Sol has an extensive menu for both snacks and proper meals. The daytime snacks are very reasonably priced and well-prepared. Most baguettes were less than 3 euros. The bar is well stocked and the venue also sells a wide variety of ice creams and lollies.
Staff - Throughout our stay the staff were pretty faultless - extremely welcoming and friendly.
Entertainment - Although we didn't actually utilise any of the Villas del Sol's entertainment, this appeared to be extremely well organised and perfect for families with a different theme each night.
MAIN RESORT
Overview - Santa Eulalia is a fairly quiet resort on the east side of the island. There is a sufficient amount going on here to keep most people entertained; however, other livelier places like Ibiza town (15kms) and San Antonio (20kms) are only a fairly short bus ride away (buses are relatively cheap at less than 2 euros per person each way).
The resort features a stylish yacht marina and a small bay which arcs round with a vast array of restaurants around the palm tree lined walkway.
There are numerous shops and restaurants in the main town area but the resort is a nice size and retains a pleasant small town feel.
EATING OUT - As mentioned above there is a wide selection of restaurants with many having a desirable seafront location. There are also a good selection of restaurants in the main area of the resort including one street devoted to them C/ San Vicente (aka 'restaurant street) - pick of the bunch had to be a place called Daffers which offered a fantastic 3-courser between 6.30 and 8.00 for only 12 euros each - a fine range of dishes and immaculately cooked food - we went back a couple of times.
BEACHES - There are a couple of man-made sandy beaches which are perfect for lazing in the sun or splashing about in the sea. Plenty of watersports are on offer including pedalos, jet-skiing, banana boats, etc. The beaches don't tend to get too busy either which is always a good thing.
NIGHTLIFE - Nightlife is fairly quiet in Santa Eulalia - a far cry from Ibiza town or San Antonio. One bar worthy of mention is the Guarana Music Bar which is located on the marina - this has live music and DJs every night.
SHOPPING - A wide variety of shops including some good-sized department stores.
All-in-all, we had a very enjoyable holiday and I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it to others.
