Viva Golf: relaxing holiday with an excellent location by Amanda Snowball |
| Posted 05 August 2005 about a visit in June 2005 | Overall rating: 10.0 |
this was a family holiday, 9 of us in total travelled to Viva Golf in July/August 2005 for one week. Ages ranged from mid 50s to 11 year olds. The hotel is spotlessly clean with maid service every day, there isnt a kids club as mentioned but my 11 yr old son participated in the mini golf and boules and even beach volley ball with the rest of the guests. Couple of things to mention: this isnt an english hotel, which some of you may find refreshing!! alot of swedish and norwegian and some germans take the bulk of the guest list, but they were courteous and polite to all and sundry, the other thing is that this hotel is not one of the cheapest to visit, therefore the ages are more above 30 than below it and children are far and few between, but as we had 3 in our party they were able to keep themselves amused and as I said, the older guests were happy for ours to join in the activities. Nightlife is pretty low key in the hotel, but where it is situated, there are lovely walks into the harbour along the beach front. Look out for the men who do sand carvings= amazing! Viva Golf is in a prime position for sun worshippers, you have sun beds dotted around the pools, (none of which were snapped up at 6 in the morning, Im sure we've all been there!) you could quite easily get a sun lounger at 10-11 in the morning. Just literally over the walkway (no roads) is the white sandy beach, again the sun beds were in plenty and at 6 euros 70 for 2 for the day this was a good option if you like the beach. The weather was fantastic during our stay, not dipping below 90 degrees, there was a lovely breeze, and the sea, although not the cleanest (seaweed) was the warmest i have been in, there are pedaloes for hire as well as a watersports area further down the bay if you are more actively minded.
The rooms in the hotel was spacious, we had 3 people stay in each room: 2 adults and 1 child, who slept on a camp bed. The kitchen area was ample, with an oven/microwave, 2 hobs, cutlery, bread knife, glasses, pans, chopping board, fridge. The balcony was more than sufficient and came with own washing line (a godsend). The maids cleaned every day to an excellent standard, and you were able to change your towels every day if required, but they discourage this for environmental reasons. The decor was pleasant and there was more than enough space for our clothes. The bathroom had 2 sinks (luxury!) a shower/bath and toilet, all spotless again. A safe is available to hire for 20 euros for a week, and a refund of 5 euros at the end of your stay per week. Rooms have air con, which in the heat is a must, you can adjust it yourself, just remember to shut the patio doors and it is activated only when these are closed.
You can hire your beach towels from reception, to save on yours getting "grubby" they are 5 euros each, which is refundable at the end of your stay, so basically they cost nothing! You hand them in every morning to get fresh ones for the day.
The food at the Viva Golf is one of the best I have had in Spain. We decided to take the half board option, and I must say it was well worth it. With people who travel with kids, you know it can be difficult for them to eat nothing but chips!. Lots of variety in hot and cold buffet style food. plenty of fish, oriental dishes, veg, and a salad bar to die for, the children were stumped for choice. The desserts consisted of fruit, sponge puddings, yoghurts icecreams, enough to temp the pickiest person.
Breakfast wasnt a dissapointment either, with a full english available every day aswell as cereals, fruit, nuts, eggs and cold meats for the continental guests. Tea Coffee, juices and milk were all on tap and you could go back as many times as you want for food and drink. Waiters and waitresses were on hand to take away your "dirties". Its an all you can eat style buffet, and boy did we make use of it, without being greedy. Although wine/drinks werent included in the half board option, these were available to purchase at a reasonable cost.
We travelled with Thomas Cook and our rep was polite and very friendly, we didnt take up any trips, due to the length of our stay, but there seemed to be enough on offer. The market on a Sunday is apparently a good visit, but as the sun was calling me, i found myself on the beach instead!
All in all, considering the number of people in our party, with different opinions and age groups, we all agreed that this hotel is worth a second visit.
