Westin La Quinta Golf Resort: Tranquil and Quiet by Sonia Martin |
| Posted 02 July 2007 about a visit in June 2007 | Overall rating: 7.1 |
My husband and I travelled to this hotel for 5 nights at the beginning of June. It is a bit out of the way but as a result it is very quiet and secluded, ideal for a relaxing break.
A short taxi ride (€10) will bring you in to Puerto Banus and further to Marbella (€18).
The hotel is well constructed and has all the amenities. The gym is quite small, no airconditioning to speak of, but if you just want to have a quick workout then it is ideal.
The pool area was excellent, very large, we moved bed 4 times the first day to follow the sun and there were no problems finding room, when it is busy not sure it would be as easy. Staff are not particularly attentive by the pool and rarely remove towels when people have left the beds. They all seemed a little bored, however the pool itself was kept particularly clean.
We had breakfast included each morning but would not rave about it, it is standard buffet fare and in fact was rarely hot.
We had dinner on one evening and again we would definitely not say it is 5 star cuisine but it is 5 star prices. My husband ordered lamb but could not eat most of it as it was so fatty, on complaining the price of the meal was not removed from the bill but they gave us a complimentary dessert which we really did not want. We did not go back. There were only 3 tables occupied at the time so the atmosphere was not great and you could hear all the conversations as they put all the tables beside each other. There are so many other great restaurants in the towns and villages and I would recommend you use these instead.
The weather was brilliant while we were there, blue skys every day so this certainly helps - not sure what you would do if the weather was bad other than leave the hotel and drive around.
The rooms were cleaned each day, we did find the bed heavenly but we had asked for a king bed and ended up with a double and single. The shower is very large and if like me you like a walk in one, you will love it. One negative item, the staff had to be asked for robes and slippers for the room on two occasions.
Something to note on the taxis, they are all using no meter now as they have cards with the prices, be careful as they sometimes charge the wrong price as they think you won't know!!! Luckily we had travelled the route 3 times so knew what we were supposed to be charged and the extra €6 euro he was trying to get did not happen!
All in all, it is a hotel that means you can have a relaxing break with no pressures, not quite a 5 star would definitely say 4 star.
