Yalikavak Review: We're going back in September!

We thought we'd got a great deal - £278 for 7 nights all inclusive at the Hotel Gloria from 2nd-10th July 2005. What a joke. We arrived at 4am and were given a key for our room - that was it - no welcome note advising of meal times, safety deposit boxes, nothing! There was nothing in the room to advise us either. We tried to get to sleep but it was absolutely roasting and the air conditioning was sadly not working as it should have. Next morning we sampled breaeakfast and it was pants! boiled eggs were about all we could stomach. Lunch and dinner were the same - absolutely disgusting, not even chips which we could have survived on. Consequently we ate out often. The pool was ok but the one and only bar by the side of the pool was a joke. The bar staff pretended not to understand the word beer! We were also the only british (never mind English) people there. The hotel was frequented by poles, hungarians, russians, estonians etc so we were somewhat isolated. The hotel is situated about a 5 minute taxi ride from the sleepy harbour/town and consequently we taxi'd there and back daily as it was far too hot to walk.
To cut a long story short we ended up at the Mer-Can Story apartments and it was delightful. The staff were brilliant and we made full use of the Pirate restaurant and bar run by Yunus and this really made our holiday. The food is to die for and ridiculous value for money. Yunus negotiated a good price for us at the apartments and ran us to the airport in his old jallopy and we were accompanied by the laughing chef! Consequently we will be going back there in September.
We also ate at Zeus and if you can stand Ahmeds boasts of having slept with a lady from just about every country etc then the food will not dissapoint you.
Also the wooden municipal building on the seafront provides plain inexpensive food with a great sea breeze. Yalikavak is not for those who want to party all night but for those seeking a chilled out holiday look no further.
